spongebob is going to be the more legendary show. But as far as most legendary shows on nick goes i would say, rugrats, hey arnold, doug, spongebob, and rockos modern life.

Geez, I'm not sure. Rugrats ran for about 15 years, had 3 theatrical movies, and even a spin-off. However, the show seemed to plumet when they added Kimi to the show. But with all the new generations coming in, I think Rugrats will become forgotten although it did get a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
SpongeBob, on the other hand, is Nickelodeon's longest-running (non-educational) program that is still currently running. The show just had its 100th episode a few months ago and is sure to continue through 2009, which will be the show's tenth year. Let's not forget The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. Altough the show's quality has drastically changed since season 4, at least it will have a lot of episodes. I think the merchandise will be the most legendary. There was pretty much a SpongeBob fad that went on in the first half of the decade. SB still gets popular ratings which is why new seasons are being renewed and reruns constantly airing on the network.
    I say, they're both legendary.

I think that also Ren & Stimpy, FOP and Aagh! Real Monsters! are legendary.

The title of this thread is "What will go down as more legendary?" . A more appropriate title would be "What Great Legend Went Down"

SACK THE NEW WRITERS! Their awful performances have made Spongebob a dull, generic, Saturday morning cartoon.

Yeah, I hate it when people think it's aimed at babies just because the show is about babies.

Agreed with Captain52. Hey Arnold was getting better and better as the seasons went by. Quite sad Nick gave it the axe. Many mysteries remained unsolved.

Spongebob doesn't even come close to the level of awesomeness that is Rugrats. That's like comparing Family Guy to early seasons of The Simpsons.

I used to love Rugrats back in the days, but there's something about Spongebob that will make it legendary:

The merchandise of Spongebob is incredibly large (an aprox. of $4 Billion have been made according to The complete 3rd season DVD) And Nickelodeon doesn't know what to do better than show Spongebob like there's no tomorrow. Right now they show Spongebob at: 10AM-1PM; 5; 5:45; 6:30 and 8PM. That's 9 episodes a day! And even thought Spongebob's popularity have gone downhill, it's still being the ONLY CARTOON SHOW to make it weekly in the top 10 ratings NATIONALLY! Let's see if Rugrats could have beaten that.

^^ I'm sure the Rugrats did all those things....kids that were born late 80's through mid 90's probably had a crap load of rugrats merchandise...it was the big show back than.
and rugrats may have not had as good of ratings as SB but they had just as many, if not more viewers than SB.

But I still think spongebob is the better show.

Spongebob will be a lgendary show, no doubt about it. It will be placed higher than Doug and hey arnold. It will be higher than rockos mordern life, angry beavers, rocket power, wild thornberrys, etc.

HOWEVER, when comparing it to rugrats, its close, but it will NEVER be above Rugrats as Nicks All time greatest show. Sorry. Rugrats will Forever hold that honor, no show can dethrone it, no matter how big of a hit it is now.

On a scale from 1 to 10, rugrats is 10. the best any show can do is 9.5. No show can dethrone rugrats, and im a fan of spongebob.

well Rugrats is pretty much forgotten to the newer generation of kids watching Nickelodeon. And Spongebob has almost been around as long as the Rugrats was. I can see SB going another 5 seasons, which then it would be Nicks longest running show. Spongebob is definately THE legendary show for Nick. Rugrats was until Spongebob came and took that spot.

And Rugrats is definately not a 10/10 it's good but not a perfect 10. Spongebob is much closer to being perfect.

That's one of the problems. But do you think Rugrats was as popular and over-hiped before SpongeBob came?

Do you mean as popular and over-hyped as Spongebob is now? No I don't think. Before Spongebob came around Rugrats was a very popular show but not as much as Spongebob. Back then Rugrats was just a television show. Now days people are Spongebob crazy and want to own everything that has to do with Spongebob. I just think it's amazing how popular one t.v. show can get in a short amount of time.
