Maybe you don't know, but only Ghost Host and Curse of Bikini Bottom are rated to be unsuiteble for children, and they are both past-movie episodes. |
Was that rock a bye scallop (Darn it, i suck in spelling) an adult humor episode too? Because that episode was disturbing O.O
Anyway, I thought there were a few adult humors in in the pre-movie series. For example, the way Spongebob was like 'Bye Squidward' in 20,000 Patties Under The Sea. It was pretty adult humor to me. And the one where Patrick turned into a girl. Or that weird episode where Squidward became 'handsome'. Okay, scratch the last one. That episode was scarier than it's suppose to be funny.

Kids don't like adult humor, I THINK that's why Sailor Mouth was #96 in the countdown. |
I don't watch the new episodes as much as I used too so I'm not sure if I can actually say the original humor is gone. Although from some of these comments, it does sound more childish than it used to. But remember, this cartoon IS geared mainly towards young people, so too much of it can send the wrong message. I'm guessing after the original writer of the series left, the others didn't know how to strike a balance, so they stuck with just kid's jokes.
But come on! The world is full of hidden adult jokes they can use. Even DISNEY uses them. Just look at this quote from "The Princess and the Frog"
Ray: (While Tiana and Naveen are caught in a tongue knot- don't ask) Looks like you and your boyfriend got a little carried away, am I right?
Anyone who knows the terms "sex" or "French Kiss" would probably know what he means by that. And it's rated G!
Wheras SB has less mature humor than, say, Phineas and Ferb. Surely the guys at Nick Studios can do better than this. OK, now that I've bored you, I'm done.
