How the heck did Patrick get into college?

In the episode The Bully Spongebob is talking to Patrick on the phone. Patrick sad that he ran into his old community college buddy Flats. I'm thinking, how did someone as stupid as Patrick get into college? You need at least a C average or more to get into college. Patrick can't even tie his own shoe's.
Any thoughts?

Maybe Patrick cheated to get into college, and no one was aware of his cheating off of people. Or maybe at that time he was smarter.
