Come to think of it my sister got new dachshunds right after her old ones passed away. My sister likes dachshunds because when she worked on the Hunt estate in Lake Geneva she had a coworker from Germany, who brought along her dachshund named Otto from the old country. Otto was really smart--even though he only understood German. When Ermgard (the German lady who owned him) said to the dog "Wast ist dein balle? zeup dein balle! (sp?) the dog would remember in what room he left his ball the day before and fetch it--and this was in a 40-50 room mansion! But that's not the reason my sister came to love dachshunds. One day other millionaires from Chicago came to visit the Hunts. (P.K. Wrigley, who at that time owned the extremely fabulously successful Wrigley chewing gum company, and the Chicago Cubs, the McCormicks, who became wealthy with a farm equipment company and now own a nice piece of lakside property--the city of Chicago, and others).Usuallywhen dinner was ready Ermgard would send out Otto to bark at the company to let them know dinner was ready. This day though, these rich guests got into a big business discussion, and didn't pay attention to Otto, Ermgard sent him out again, again he was ignored. Ermgard sent him out a third time, again these multi-millionaire guests ignored him. And then Otto, being extremely frustrated, bent down and took a dump in front of all those hoity toity millionaires. And that's how my sister came to love dachshunds.
