I thought the biggest improvement was the music. There was a saying that goes something like "Music in 90% of your picture" or something like that. So far so good and this series looks very promising.
I was actually quite impressed. I went into this nervous because of how much I love the original Avatar series. Thankfully I enjoyed every minute of it. I was actually kind of happy to see Bolin acting like Sokka and didn't find it repetitive. I thought it was sweet that Aang and Katara named their daughter Kya. My favorite part though was in the first episode when Tenzin's kids go "What happened to Zuko's mom?" Seriously, we need to know lol.
They were so great. Even better than I'd hoped. Yeah I lol'd at the Zuko's mom part, gah that was annoying >.>Totally a Makorra shipper now :3

Tenzin's children are simply the best part of the show. And the show is the best in everything.
If the dialog, flow, animation, music, fights and themes keep up through it's run, well, this would really be the greatest cartoon ever.
Can't wait to see Amon in action, though, socialism here we go!
I have to say, i liked it
I was hoping that the original series would be referenced and indeed it was.
I was concerned that they were going to make Korra seem better than Aang, and while that fear still seems plausible, i liked how whenever any character refers to him, it's always with respect.
My only gripe is that, to me, it seems rather sad that Katara outlived her husband. I mean, it was most likely that Aang's children were going to outlive him, but somehow, Katara being the survivor of the pair just doesn't feel right.

Yeah, but she ain't going to be around for long, remember the episode the fortune teller? She said that Katara will die right when her 4th grandchild is being born. |
Calling it now...
Recall when Aang learned how to take away bending from the Fire Lord in the finale.
I believe the "Equalists" will either be trying to figure out how to do that, or already know how to do that and try to use it against the Avatar.
I am so excited about thisseries. From what I have seen so far, it's really good. It has that Avatar vibe, but is unique enough to be it's own story. It definitely has a more grown up feel to it, though Avatar was pretty deep, just presented in a more childish way.
How fast technology has advanced is still kind of jarring, though I guess the universe was always borderline steam punk and it has been a good 50 to 70 years I guess.
Did anyone laugh when they saw the spinning screens?

Katara also said goodbye to Korra in a very "well Im going to die now" kind of way.
