What I've always wanted to see is that actual sword fight. I know a skilled fighter can take a lot, but I wonder what 1 vs 100 would be like. A good portion of those fighters had to be very, very skilled to be sent after someone like Piandao. To defeat 100 people on your own...that's intense. Sokka isn't a fighter. Yes, the Combustion Man kill was awesome, but in the general sense, Sokka isn't a fighter. He's a scientist. If you want a fighter, look at his girlfriend. I think Suki would destroy Zuko in a nobending fight, and match him in an all out fight. |

She couldn't beat Ty Lee. She probably wouldn't be able to beat Mai (especially if the latter discarded the strange aversion to blood and actually started KILLING with her knives). I'd say there's a lot of doubt as to whether she could beat the dual-sword-wielding Zuko (he's pretty much a ninja himself, and the weapons give him a big advantage). She wouldn't be able to *beat* Azula in a sense that Azula would have evaded her and escaped from the fight like she did during the Eclipse. There's a good chance she would have lost against Jun and Nyla (that lightning-fast paralysis attack is great, and a surprise too). Probably she would have lost against the Fire Nation elite archer unit (those girls were bad). And don't forget Piandao - I highly doubt Suki had any chance of defeating him. So there's a whole bunch of people who Suki wouldn't beat. Some of them just nameless mooks.

Nothing to it. It's like a simultaneous chess game between a Grand Master and 100 beginners. No matter how many beginners there are (10, 100 or 1000) the Grand Master will own them all. Point is, none of the soldiers can lay a hand on Piandao because he's so skilled, and he can kill any of the soldiers at his leasure. So yeah, it'll take a bit of time (more if they run away) but eventually he'll get them all.
A good example of this I remember from the movie Sword of Doom, where a master swordsman played by Toshiro Mifune single-handedly kills a whole band of attackers. The Musashi films also have examples of this.
Well, we seem to have pretty much argued this subject to death, and Zuko seems to have come out on top.
So I propose that the subject now be changed to "Who is a better swordsman; Zuko or Momo?"
Personally, my money's on Momo.

Considering how Zuko pwned Sokka in a matter of seconds in ''The Avatar Returns'' and the way Zuko took out all the thugs on ''Zuko Alone'' we all know Sokka doesnt stand a chance against Zuko, space sword or not. |
Considering how Azula pwned Zuko in a matter of seconds in "The Avatar State," we all know Zuko doesn't stand a chance against Azula, swords or not. lolwut?
OK, I'm done being a smart-mouth now. Seriously though, just because a character defeats another in one fight doesn't mean all future outcomes are set in stone. Not to mention Sokka's come a long way since the beginning of the show. I'd like to see Zuko take down a giant spirit owl by himself.
P.S. The only reason Zuko was still standing was because he was wearing a helmet.

While I agree, I think we can all also agree that Sokka is rather obviously the weakest character in the show when it comes to fighting. It's clear that his lack of bending isn't a part of this. Mai could easily disable dozens of very skilled benders in seconds, and even stood toe to toe with Katara AFTER she was proclaimed a master (I'm aware of her improved skill, but even now, it would be a very intense fight).
Sokka isn't a fighter. He's creative, and is intelligent moreso than a capable fighter. He has managed to kill some pretty big baddies, but in a straight up fight he'd lose against practically any other fighter in the show.

It depends on what you mean by "a straight up fight." If we're going purely on skill, then Zuko would have the advantage, I don't deny that. But when have fights ever been fair? Like I said, who wins depends on the factors such as the surrounding environment and a person's strategy. That's the point Piandao was trying to get across.

with Katara's ability to locate hidden supplies of water whenever a desperate situation arises (convienient rivers under Ba Sing Se and even more convienient drains in FN royal courtyard) I can't picture Katara losing the Mai at this point also consider that during their one encounter in the chase Katara was sleep depreived |
lol Mai just has a bunch of cool little knives up her sleeve, but when she runs out, she's screwed.

Lol sokka was so bad at anything that had to do with fighting.
it was basically like "Ohhh no! I was hit by Sokka's boomerang! That caused me a minor inconvienence! Curse your for momentarily slowing me down!"

Using it he killed a guy who could generate massive explosions with his mind.
If you ask me, that is not a minor inconvienence. Because the guy he hit with it is actually dead. Completley. That classifies as a little more than a minor inconvienence.

yeah, but anyone could throw something at a target. Sokka happened to have a boomerang.
I was in a dollar store today with some friends, and i threw a boomerang. It was really easy.

For a fair fight here, I would say that zuko somehow is not able to use his firebending.
If thats the case, with little training I would say Sokka probably would be better than Zuko. Piando did say that if Sokka continues training he will become even a greater master than himself and that must carry some weight considering how darn good piando is. Also Sokka is more quick witted, while Zuko fights mainly using aggression.
To summarise everything if the fight was to occur this second, due to the shear amount of experience that Zuko has with his broad sword compared with the experience Sokka has with his space sword, Zuko would win but with little training Sokka most likely can reverse the result.
