idk. It could be either Iroh or Ozai. Here's a better question, how come no one smiles in portraits?

I think it's Ozai. It makes sense because those shots first showed up in season one and season two when we still didn't know what he looked like, so it would make a lot of sense.

I think it's Ozai, actually. Yeah, I'm actually a little surprised... Anyway, look at the one where you see the hand on Zuko's shoulder. At the top you can see like the shoulder pad or whatever it is. The thing Fire Lords have...

Iroh could have had similar garb though, seeing as how the shoulder pad doesn't match the 2 tiered shoulder pad ozai has in the portrait.

its ozai because in the beach episode the flashback appeared right after he looked at the family portrait and at ozai

It's also Ozai because all of those flashbacks were meant to show what Zuko wanted or thought he wanted, such as the one of him at the beach laughing. This one has his father's hand on his shoulder, kind of like a protective figure. Eventually Zuko learns that while he won't get his father's love, but that isn't his own fault.

You know, as the last scene in the finale, I want to see a Zuko flashforward, where he's got a beard and he's yelling "We have to go back Katara! WE HAVE TO GO BACK!"

    (Little "Lost" joke there.)

It's Ozai, but that was before Ozai seemed to lose what little sanity he had managed to retain up until that point.

I don't think Ozai was always as evil or ruthless as he is now, but then again Hitler was once a baby and then a kid, so that's not saying I think Ozai is just confused.

    I think he's evil.

i think its ozai because in the flashbacks zuko might have ahd a better relashonship with his dada and he wanted to get back to that

I'm not sure, it seems like Iroh would be the more sypathetic type, however in the context it makes more sense for it to be Ozai. I don't think that Ozai was openly hostile to Zuko when he was little. I think that he recognized that Zuko was actually a talented bender but that he needed time to develop his skillz... and as evil as Ozai is, I doubt that he would want to make an enemy out of someone who is so close to him. Think about it, anyone in the royal family knows lots of stuff that the enemy could find useful.

I think the reason that none of them are smiling is (presuming this is a drawing) because the artist needs a constantly maintained image to focus upon in order to draw it and while eyes may move, the artist doesn't have to wait for the posers to smile again because maintaining a smile is harder than holding a blank face.

Ps> Totally off topic, but what and where is The Refuge? I'm more of a lurker, but I'd like to lurk where there isn't so much fail...

Yes, the lurking here really fails, I want to actually read interesting conversations.
