That's up to you. And for the record, there??have been plenty of foundational??cartoons, animated series whatever??besides DBZ (assuming of course??that thats an acronym for the Dragonball Z franchise). Huh, yeah I guess its gettin pretty popular nowadays huh? Well people are now noticing how popular it is now anyway.

All I can tell you is that Avatar is the only worth while show on Nick right now. It's great for all ages, has lots of depth, and a great plotline.

DBZ? DBZ is a good example of a archetype never-ending-sope-anime with advance character development, besides that there are no other qualities about it that a worth mentioning. I would put avatar between GitS:SAC1-2 and Wolf Rain, it's no Cowboy Bebop or FLCL but its dam good.

Funny... I guess because I'm old (at least by my account here), and I watch most of these shows just randomly (until they grab my attention like Avatar did)... I actually relate the story telling to Star Blazers.

Deep with a purpose with an outlined goal to work forwards to, along the way meet some characters and due some serious history with crisis and pivotal outcomes... must be my age.

Very good, could end to be excellent by the end of season 3. There are a bunch of great eps (see: Season 1 Final 3 eps, The Storm, Zuko Alone, Bitter Work, the newest one) mixed in between with good eps and a few that try to be funny (see: Avatar Day, the Great Divide, etc). These last ones are far better than Japanese humor eps in japanese action anime. I just don't think it belongs in the show, and these generally don't provide much char development. And no, it's not better than Ed Elric. Not quite yet anyway.

    Er, spoilers and sarcasm follow.

Yeah. I loved that scene where Aang ressurected Gyatso and Lust killed Jet. In season 3, Sokka will be stuck in a suit of armor and Katara will become a mechanic. Aang will enroll in the Fire Nation's army, but defy all of his orders in order to get closer to the Fire Lord, who is actually a homunculous.

I'm not a full metal fan, and I don't see the similarity. Worst comparison I see is avatar and Evangelion.

According to Mike and Bryan (didn't feel like just saying the creators this time), you want a real Avatar movie? Go past three season? Then screw all the other merchandise that they're shipping out at ya and go straight for the Appa plushies. Seriously just go crazy and buy as many Appa plushie as you can afford. They're even thinkin of starting a website devoted to it. ...Yeah, youz guys get it on that. Here's some inspiration or whatever-
