After telling my friend about Avatar, she watched "The Northern Air Temple" and wasn't impressed.

(I don't blame her, that was a really bad episode in my opinion but back to the topic)

What does everyone else think a bad episode for first time viewers to watch would be?

"The Great Divide" is a bad episode to see no even if you're a??100 time viewer...you probably shouldn't let em see "The Cave of Two Lovers" or "Tales of Ba Sing Se" I didn't find anything wrong with them just that for a first time viewer they could be too slow...

I agree with "The Great Divide"... bad episode and has no meaning whatsoever to contribute to the storyline.

Yes, when trying to get people addicted to the show you need to show a episode that revolves around the plot-arch for the series. The first episodes, the middle one with seeing roku, the end of season 1.

If I had to recommend one episode, that doesn't give too much away for a first time viewer, it would be "The Deserter." It has direct influence on the plot(Aang swore off Firebending, but is it permanent?) and one of the greatest one??time characters I've ever seen.

Just a few weeks ago I got two of my friends (fellow 19 year old college students no less) into the show my showing them The Deserter on Nick. They were so excited, we watched the rest of the season 1 episodes that night. They still were not satisfied and wanted to move on to season 2. However, I gave them a few episodes to watch from the first season (The Boy in the Iceberg, The Avatar Returns, Avatar Roku, Jet, The Storm, and The Blue Spirit). So the next day, we actually watched every episode of book two (from The Avatar State to Appa's Lost Days). Since then they have gone back and watched all the episodes they missed in season one . . . except The Great Divide. Which I told them never to watch. So I guess that is my answer.

What'd I tell ya? If "The Deserter" can't hook em, then they probably won't feel the show.

Nothing impressed me in The Great Divide. I guess I would have to agree on The Northern Air Temple. The Cave of Two Lovers was kind of like a repeat to The Fortune Teller.

Well I would just show here the Pilot you know "The Boy in the Iceberg" and "The Avatar Returns" that would explain the series to her/him.

"Bitter Work" or "The Storm" would be great ones. Also "Bato of the Water Tribe" would be real good too.

Yeah...obviously the whole duty of the Avatar to make peace between 2 groups of people. That eppy showed Aang's ability, or lack there-of, to bring peace to feuding groups of people, and shows how much he has to grow before he can make peace for the entire world. Looking back it wasn't that bad...

I disagree on The Northern Air Temple. If you don't like those tanks, I don't know what's wrong with you! It was a good episode. Not one of the best, but still good. Although I wouldn't show it to a first time viewer.

Well it really depends on someone's taste as to which eps not to show them first. If they're into drama, don't show them "Avatar Day" because that's mostly a comical episode, as is "The King of Omashu". If they like comedy, well don't show them more serious eps like The Blue Spirit or Zuko Alone. Just ask 'um if they want to comedy or the drama/action first

If you want a mix then I truly suggest King of Omashu and Return to Omashu.?? The reason why is because the King of Omashu shows some humor.?? Then the return to Omashu will show the seriousness of the happenings in the world.?? Not to mention that they seem to go hand and hand even though they are so far apart in episodes.?? Not to mention that the noobs will get a taste of Season 1 and Season 2.?? Another thing they will get excited about is Azula and her character's role in the story.

The Avatar State would be a good one to watch, it has a little bit of everything, action (the fights), comedy (loved Aang going hyper on the tea), plot development (AZULA!!!!! And Zuko cutting his hair), character development(Aang and his Avatar State, AZULA!!!!), whole bunch of stuff.??And of course, Kataang. The whole explanation of the avatar state was cool too.?? I wouldn't let them see??the Blue Spirit, only for the pure reason that Aang being freaked ou that Zuko of all people came to rescue him, will have no affect on the newbie. My sis saw that episode as her first one, and while she liked it, she told me she didn't understand the significance of Zuko rescuing Aang, and why he bothered to do it.????
