Will Avatar end once the Fire Lord is defeated?

Thus far, the episodes??have been??building towards an ultimate battle in which Aang will??face the Fire Lord to decide the fate of the world. But then what? It is basically a given that Aang will win, but what will follow? It is a very popular programme which the networks will not want to drop - in which case they will have to create a new storyline for the gang to follow (such as the 5th and 6th element as suggested by other members).

If does carry on - I feel it will demean the great show so far. As i felt with pokemon (I was young) when they said that there were only 100 pokemon but then PUFF hundreds more started appearing. i just lost interest after that and gave up. Will the same happen to Avatar if they decide on introducing new, unnecessary elements?

I'm sure I am not the only one who gets seriously irritated by shows that do not finish after dragging you through a whole series with and underlying focus. Which leads me to hope that Avatar will end.

Ideally, although regretably, i would like to see this with the death of Aang. It feels like a bit of a cliche with the hero dying from say a fatal wound after defeating his enemy, but it is a rare occurance. If they made the final episode into a film, that would awesome as long as it was well written.

So what do you think? Should the series continue? Should it bow out with high ratings, respect and a huge following? I know I'd buy the complete collection of Avatar on DVD if it did end.

Avatar should continue even after Book of Fire in my opinion.

I have read in an article with talk about further seasons after season 3, though these are as yet unconfirmed. Avatar is so rich and full a world, it can easily support a continuing series even after the war of the nations ends. Finding the remnants of his people, rebuilding after the war, continuing his adventures elsewhere are just some subjects I can think of off the bat to concern Aang once he fulfills the immediate threat of the Fire Nation.

I agree, that some things are better left to their original idea. With Avatar the main story should end with the defeat of the fire nation. I would not be surprised if Aang were to die in the process.
Ohh, just got an idea for an ending. The Avatar cycle goes water, earth, fire, air right? So that mean that the next Avatar will be from the water tribe. Maybe it will be Sokka and Suki child, or Katara's and someone's. I think it would help end the story on a good note and reinforce the whole perpetual cycle idea of the Avatar.

    Two words: Spin off.

They may end THIS version, but have no fear: I bet there'll be something.

There can't be a new Avatar with Airbenders to teach him/her Airbending

If there is a season 4 it will be about Aang trying to figure out how to bring the Airbenders back

ive said it before.... the writers can squeeze a season 4 with the firelord story if done correctly

book 3 could be about Aang and Zuko Mastering Fire. and Some Sidequest while Penetrating the Fire Nation that has invaded EK Territory. including taking back the cities they've conquered.

and??if it's done correctly they can use Book 4 on Invading the Fire Nation and the Eclipse and Comet.

it will be perty interesting to see how the creators go with it. i just hope they dont add new elements. so Mike if youre reading this please dont add new elements.

I agree... although to do so they are gonna have to slow time down.?? We are already in early spring and the comet is going to come at the end of summer.?? I posted something in a previous thread about me theory on this, but I'll kinda give a sypnosis on it here to...

I think Aang will attempt to fight the Firelord during the eclipse.?? Azulon will be weakened.?? He will turn to Azula to help him in his weakness and she will exterminate him (like father, like daughter).?? Azula will take the reign.?? She will attempt to harness the power of the comet but will not be as successful as her father would have been (obviously because he would be more experienced to do so) BUT it will still make her more powerful.?? She will make a final attempt at world domination only to be stopped by the Gang.?? This is just my theory and it also allows for the series to continue past the "dreaded" comet date that is set in stone so to speak already.

I was thinking the same thing. I am not for the Aang katara thing but if it did happen and if he lived then it would be interesting since the next?? one is water. Killing two birds with one stone so to speak. I was aslo wondering what will happen when the war isover.?? What will the characters do and go? any takers?

I think that Aang and Katara should get together and have a child but Aang should be doing something and die. Then Their child would be a water bender and maybe the next Avatar. Then the story could go on with a new Avatar, and maybe something could go wrong in other places to set up a new story. As long as it doesnt get boring i think it could work out.

This of it like Yugioh. In the first season(s), it had all the plots, and when the plot ended, it just went on further and further to something different.

If using this concept, then Avatar should continue even after the Fire Lord is defeated.

A few of you have mentioned a baby or two popping up, but at what point is this going to happen? Are they going to have to do a LOTR movie ending where the leap forward a bit in time with Sam's kids (and the gang is older too) otherwise its going to be a tad wierd with Katara (14ish?) having a baby with Aang (12/13ish? +100years).

I hope it doesn't turn out like Yu Gi Oh, because I just got bored of that and moved on - I couldn't be bothered watching them take 3 episodes to play a game of cards which would determine the fate of the world... again and again and again.

Yeah, thats kind of like Powerpuff Girls... Fighting monsters over and over again in every episode, who can not get bored of that show.

Also, I mean the like it can compare to Yugioh with continuing on the series with a different plot. I agree that the 90-120 minutes for just 1 game over and over again is boring.

...Maybe a new enemy shows up...I can see the spinoff/sequel/whatever:

"After the defeat of the Firelord, the nations are struggling to build alliances. But a dark cloud is approaching, and with it, the threat of a new war."

Anyone calls me overdramatic, I will hurt you!!
