Far as I know Aang has no choice, cause the Avatar spirit was born into him, they reincarnated(sorry don't know how to spell it) in his body. He was just the Avatar and no-one else. Its not like you can apply for it, you just are the Avatar or not.

None of the Avatars really have a choice and i don't think they would choose that job anyways. Also someone needs to bring peace to the land.

It's an animated series on tv and the creators of this serie created this character with these characteristics to be the leading character on the show and since the show is called the avatar the leading character will be the avatar....

They way your talking is as if this character is walking somewhere in Rl it's just a made up boy!!!!

Also the personality that the creators of this show gave to this character is one of the entertaining things on this show.

And now you also have at least sympathy for Aang, that although he doesn't want to be the Avatar he still is going to do as they're expecting of him. If Aang was a person who thought highly of himself, who act's like being the Avatar is nothing, you would just think it's a jerk

Since when is the Earth Kingdom evil? Sure, they're strange, but not evil. And not everyone in the Fire Nation is evil, either. Plus, as some people said before, Aang didn't have a choice. He wasn't "choosen" by the monks. the avatar spirit was born into him.

Like many people are saying, no one CHOSE Aang. It's no one's fault that Aang is the Avatar, and the whole pity factor of the show is very clever. It makes you pity both the good guy and the so-called bad guy. Because as the plot unravels Zuko becomes a more developed character and you pity him, but at the same time you pity the hero, Aang, whom Zuko is trying to capture. So really the writters are putting you in an interesting situation. Which leaves you with one question: "HOW THE HECK WILL THIS WORK OUT?"

Ahh, the pity factor. Still, I don't think Aang would have said no to being the avatar if he was asked when he was more mature. I think he was a great 'choice'

Good point. Besides, if Aang was some power hungry freak it would ruin the show.

The whole perfect hero concept went out of style in the 1960's since then we have all these flawed, trotured and anti-hero characters.

That's right. Just because Germany in the 1930s-1940s was run by Hitler and his Nazi puppets, does that mean the individual German citizens were evil as well? No. They were just unfortunate enough to live in a country run by a bigoted, bloodthirsty dictator.
