Hey uchia, I was breezing through your blog when I found this:

Well yesterday I was laying down on my bed and I was thinking "Wow I need to start watching another good anime.." Well I said to myself "what other popular anime is there? I already watched Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, and Death Note". Well I suddenly realized that Avatar was supposed to be a popular anime so I started watching. I am currently on episode 12 and I love it. Well hopefully I will love Avatar as much as I like Naruto and Bleach.

What happened, why don't you like Avatar anymore?

The waiting killed it for me cuz I found it its not worth all that waiting for just 1 episode especially when there are other great animes out there.
This just proves our point, the wait is killing the show. Only the most diehard fans can continue to support the show when Nick treats it like dogs**t. Casual watchers simply cannot continue watching under these circumstances.
    That's what I said.

One word: Nick. Nickelodeon and their stupid hiatuses that only the die hard fans will tolerate. Casual viewers of Avatar just say f it, because Nick likes to hold on to episodes for 9 months at a time and then for another 8 months.

It really is messed up. Nick should at least show some catch-up re-runs or something. But maybe Nick knows what they are doing better than we do. I mean who knows? Maybe since the Finale wasn't finished on time they didn't know how to work Avatar's remaining episodes into the schedule.

Although I am new, I have been reading the arguments on this thread for a while now. I love Naruto and Avatar. But I have to say the Avatards have much more backing to their argument than the Narutards. I have only one question to the Naruto fans- You say that Naruto has a great plot line, action, character development, etc... However you guys actually haven't given any EXAMPLES. All you guys have done throughout this thread is refute EXAMPLES given by Avatar fans. So why don't you guys actually have a 'debate' which you said in the first post with actual info/examples- instead of personal attacks? Honestly, just dodging questions shows that this thread has been created for no reason whatsoever.

Also, just ignoring my post rather than acknowleding it proves my point further.

Character development... Naruto, Sakura, Sasuke, Shikamaru and plenty others. Great fights... pretty much any fight because 90% of the fights are important unlike the hit and run fights in Avatar. Usually at the end of the fight something changes to further the plot. Great plot... isn't as simple as taking down the firelord. So far Naruto has to save Sasuke, destroy Akatsuki, become Hokage, and deal with his demon someday.

Ok I've been reading through some of this thread and most of it is kind of pointless babble. I don't normally post (I just read) but I'll put my two cents in for this one...

I'll clear this up first: I've never seen Naruto, so I'm not going to even try and compare it and Avatar - as far as I'm concerned and as far as I know they are both excellent shows. And of the tv shows I do watch, Avatar does happen to be my favorite.

With that said, the question posed was: Why is this so great? The way to answer this: OPINION. What you have provided here is a list of your opinions as to why Naruto is a superior show. Fine. You may be right (again I don't personally know). But people may not agree with you.
    1) You like the character development in Naruto. That's wonderful, and I can admire anyone who cares about more than just throwing punches in a show. But, the way I see it, there is character development in Avatar as well. Some people don't think Aang has had any character development - phooey. I really disliked Aang in the beginning of the show because he was busy being a goofy kid. Not anymore. Yea he still likes to have fun, but he's becoming more accepting of his position as Avatar. Zuko is another one. He goes from enemy to Aang, to angsty fugitive, to enemy to his own father. People have already mentioned Ty Lee and Mai - they both turn on their "friend" Azula for personal reasons. And based on a scene from the NYCC trailer, I think we will see Azula changing as well, although I'm assuming not to the "good side", but some sort of change (scene where she throws her brush in a mirror, with tears in her eyes).
    2) You say Naruto has excellent fights, DIFFERENT from the fights shown in Avatar that you call "hit and run." This is your opinion. Maybe I like the "hit and run" fights in Avatar. The fights in the show fit the positions the characters are in: Aang is constantly running from the Fire Nation and other enemies. The fights are designed the way they are simply in order to succeed in his endeavor. To me, this does not make them any better or worse than other anime fights I have seen.
    3) You may like the way Naruto's plot flows. Also a wonderful reason to appreciate a show - but I think Avatar's plot is wonderful the way it is as well. It was intended from the beginning to be split into 3 chapters. We haven't seen the end, but I'm going to assume Bryan and Mike have been successful.
    4) You may like the challenges that Naruto is forced to face. Ok great. But there is more to Avatar than defeating the Fire Lord. That's a huge plot point of course - but it's far from simple. I'll point out a few reasons why: A 12 year old, last of his bending art, forced to take on all the other 3 bending forms in under a year? Come on, that's huge! The fact that their enemy Zuko joins them. Also huge. There's more, but I'm not going in to it right now. Again, my OPINION tells me this is not a simple plot and I think it fits quite well.

So I will emphasize this again - the way Avatar is designed is just different from Naruto. And to all the Avatards, all the "differences" you have pointed out is what makes it so great. All that you pointed out about Naruto, to the Narutards, is what makes it so great.

    There, I'm finished.

This post wins in so many ways I don't even know where to begin.

    BTW, ancient Greek facepalm, nice.

There was a discussion a while ago about how the cost for making each episode of Naruto/Avatar was different. If I recall correctly, one episode of Avatar takes one million dollars to make while one Naruto episode takes two million dollars to make. If Avatar can be so well produced with that amount of money, well enough for anime fans to compare it to their shows, doesn't that make it respectable, at least? Besides, Avatar isn't anime, and there's a lot less support for an independent show like it here. Avatar still does well.

I think that the storyline was one of the discussion points, as well as plot progression and character maturity. One thing I'd like to say is that Avatar doesn't have a manga to base the show off of, so every episode is original and creatively written. The artwork and animation is great compared to other shows made popular in America, so it's a breath of fresh air. As for character backgrounds, tragic backstories aren't what's important. Who the character is now is the important thing. Despite having his entire nation wiped out (imagine you being the sole survivor of your country), Aang, the main character, still has a happy and cheerful disposition. That's better than brooding over something your entire life, in my opinion. Instead of angsting over his loss, Aang turns all his grief into determination to try to prevent the same thing from happening to the world. Yet, he's still a normal twelve-year-old, and even though he still goofs around at times, he still remembers that he has a job to do and people to protect. In the third season, this makes itself apparent when he runs away to face the Fire Nation himself so that he doesn't put his friends in danger.

The fight scenes are also pretty creative. Instead of having everyone be a "bender", there are also nonbenders that specialize in different fighting styles. Take Sokka, a budding swordsmaster, Mai, a knife thrower, and Ty Lee, an acrobat who blocks an opponent's chi by hitting pressure points. There's not just one "world domination" villain, and the Fire Nation itself is actually portrayed as being overridden by propoganda. There's an episode where Aang goes to a Fire Nation school in disguise, and the students are taught that what their nation has been doing is right. In fact, one of the reasons the war was started was because the Fire Nation wanted to spread their "prosperity" throughout the four nations, and they thought it was the right thing to do. It's not just a good/evil sort of thing, where it's all black and white. One of the best examples can be Zuko, who was one of the main villains in the first season, but started to see all the pain and suffering his nation had caused after being banished from the Fire Nation.

As for the villains, I think they're pretty creative as well. Take Fire Lord Ozai, the "baddest man on the planet", and his daughter, Azula, who is Zuko's sister. They both have different styles of bending. Azula's rivalry with Zuko is also one of the strong points of her character and allows for development in the end on Zuko's part. In the end of the second season, Zuko is finally starting to see that he is in control of his own destiny and can choose to oppose or support the war. Azula, being the Princess of her nation, manipulates her older brother and turns the season finale into a shocking betrayal in which Zuko turns his back on the mentor who has taught him that he's able to find his own destiny. In the end, however, Zuko sees that the war is wrong. Azula also has her own reasons for resenting Zuko, as her own mother loved Zuko more and shunned Azula, a Firebending prodigy.

I don't have a complete understanding of Naruto, so I'm not going to point out anything about the show itself. I'm just responding to some of the character development comments made a while back. I'm not trying to say that Avatar is the supreme awesome show of all time, but hoping that Naruto/Bleach/anime fans in general gain some respect for it.

Besides, it's not about which show is greater, right? It's about why we, as Avatar fans, like this show, and this is why I like it.

I mean, each show is great to the fans who watch it. I just want Avatar to gain some respect to people who think it's just an anime rip-off, you know? If we had to come to an agreement, I would agree with jnk4eva:

well i myself have never seen Naruto only once or twice while surfing channels, i personally thought the main character naruto was kind of childish more than aang but that might just be because i haven't seen the show or its progression. but i have a question for you. do you actually watch avatar? have you seen most or all of the shows till date? you can't base your assumptions on one or two shows otherwise you wont see the flow of things just like me with Naruto i don't see it. as far as the whole flying bison and things coming out of nowhere its really not coming out of thin air the creators of avatar created this world where creatures are different from the ones we are used to seeing and they did an excellent job with them. As well as creating an entire world where only some people are blessed with the skill to bend elements and the different benders and regions have their own customs and beliefs and ways of life. the show isn't really as exaggerated because its all put together in a way that it looks understandable and believable. but again as many others have stated before me its all about your personal taste.

Look, I've watched Avatar, Naruto AND read the naruto manga. They're both good shows, and they both have thier merits and their faults.

But Avatar's got an over all better TV series. At least in America.

And Naruto has a better Manga series, mostly because Avatar's is written for twelve year olds, but still.

(Hey, at least I broke mine up)

Lawl, Avatar has 2 sworn enemies, Spongebob and Naruto.

Spongebob-It's like sibling rivalry, Spongebob is Nick's favourite show, and thus it neglects Avatar as a result, we get rejected, and that means we turn to hating Spongebob.

Naruto-Naruto and Avatar have a few similarities, enough for people to compare them. As a result a 'which show is better?' feud often occurs.

I am a Naruto fan. lol. Well the original thread started off as a naruto fan asking people to vote for Naruto for some poll about something I don't really remember. I think the thread was called "Please vote Naruto for [whatever the poll was goes here..like i said, i don't remember it actually I'm too lazy to look back and find the name]. Then one of the Avatar fans posted a comment that well..it just went down hill from there. (this was a "long" post too. crazy..its starting to rub off on me lol)
