Well, if you like him...why did you post here? This is for the Zuko haters. not lovers.
I assumed that, based on this quote, you only wanted to talk to people with the same opinion as you. I apologize for not understanding you. I should have realized that in saying this you meant that you wanted to have an open discussion about the character. Anyway...

Flutterlight I think I love you. Seriously made me laugh my ass off, almost peed myself. You're other responses to this ill-supported opinion have been brilliant as well.

As to you carcrash I assume you don't know what its like to have a parent who doesn't love you. Most people respond to this lack of approval and affection by doing whatever they can to earn it. And if you have experienced not having a parent love you and have been "strong" enough to brush it off well then I say good for you, but most people have too much emotional depth to react so callously. Also I find your concepts of good vs. evil quite childish. And I do mean that in the least insulting way possible. None of the characters in the Avatar universe acted with the motivation of committing an evil act. They did what they did because they thought it was the right thing to do. And they thought this because they were raised to think that way. Zuko is one of only a handful of characters who act in contradiction to they way they are taught to act. So if you think he is weak for committing a few "evil" acts then by your own definition Azula and the firelord are much weaker characters. And from the firelords perspective Aang is quite weak as he for the most part only does as the monks taught him to do. As for the way Zuko treated Iroh, I honestly doubt there has never been someone in your own life that you have under-appreciated. The concept of reality is quite subjective so lets not go there. Why do you think he is a "bad guy"? I think you are lacking in forgiveness. Iroh did or at least would have him and Aang forgave him so who are you to hold his actions against him? I don't remember Zuko ever telling Katara to blood bend but even if he did it would have for a good cause so thatargumentdoesn't really make sense. Then again your whole "I only want Zuko haters posting here" in one post and then " I want other opinions" in anotherpostdoesn't really make sense either. If a character was pathetic and sucked simply because a better character existed out in the universe 99.99% of all characters would be pathetic... I don't think any of us who have defended Zuko are trying to excuse his behavior we are simply stating the reasons and motivations behind it. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe you consider Zuko weak for being emotionally distressed for a good portion of the series. Again I can't help but find your opinion childish. How does feeling emotion equate to being weak? If after the agni kai with his father Zuko had said "Ohwell, my dad doesn't love me. Screw him." He as a character would probably be less believable and less relatable.

    Wow.
I could back up my point if i felt like it. I really don't want to anymore though. I'm hearing the same argument from you so I must refute the same argument with my point against it. I have only a few counters to the argument I keep hearing. As far as me repeating myself, you took one sentence from the entire argument. If I took one sentence from each time you wrote back it would sound much the same. The whole thing needs to be read, not one sentence. The bigger picture. Taking one sentence from paragraphs of proof is silly and childish. Its a sad way to make a point since your ignoring the bulk of the evidence. I could do the same to you but i won't. Not only could i take single sentences that sound the same, but your general themes are the same throughout. So I could just copy and past everything you've put to show you how the same it is.
I don't like Zuko, this thread is for people who have an original argument or who don't like him as well. There is no reason to get mean. you are the only one who is at the moment. It doesn't have to be like that though.

I agree with DiamondLights. As I proved earlier in one of my posts, you, carcrashheart17, have literally said the same thing six times.

I on the other hand have said the following: Zuko is a strong character because:

    A. He had to overcome a large amount of brainwashing that occurred during his childhood, which is hard to do.

    B. It's been proven that the majority of people are psychologically inclined to give in to an authority figure's demands. Therefore Zuko is no more odd than the majority of people for going along with Azula.

    C. It has been proven that it takes a strong person to challenge an authority figure. Zuko did eventually challenge his father and Azula.

That's three different points (although I do admit that the last two are somewhat connected). Three different points to disprove your one argument which you somehow managed to phrase six different ways. Face it, I haven't repeated myself nearly as much as you have. You're WRONG.

Now, if it seams like I repeated these three points, it is probably because you posted the exact same thing on two different threads, thus generating similar responses from me. You also largely ignore the ignore the contents of my posts, which may also have caused me to repeat myself, as I was not sure you understand what I was typing.

    LIES!

I am forced to conclude that you, Carcrashheart17, never wanted to engage in an intellectual argument, as this is the most positive response anybody has managed to generate from you so far.

Therefore, I am no longer interested in discussing anything with you. Banal contradictions do not make for a worthwhile argument or discussion.

Wow, I don't think I've seen childish closed-mindedness on the scale of carcrashheart17's arguments in quite some time.

I thought all of you points were very well thought out and interesting _FlutterLight_. I'd give up on this now before you completely frustrate yourself. You'd get a better response presenting your evidence to a brick wall.

Thank you. Don't worry, as stated earlier I have no intention of furthering this conversation with carcrashheart17. It's no fun to argue with somebody who resorts to petty name-calling anyway.

Agreed _Flutterlight_, very eloquent and cool-headed throughout. Zuko is also one of my favorite characters from the series for many of the reasons you listed. Secondly, I find characters who struggle internally and externally fascinating because it showcases that they can endure and tolerate virtually anything including harsh adversity and/or their own misguided decisions. Zuko falls under that category as do a number of strong characters I enjoy along the lines of Dr. House, Batman, Patrick Jane and the like. Once more, kudos.
