Amen to democrats. I LOVE democrats, but.......... We're going to DIE. lol.
Yes, sadly now that Democrats have control of the House we are going to die. But there's still hope in the Senate...COME ON VIRGINIA, GO REPUBLICAN! Oh well, we'll "thump" them right back in '08. The country will see Dems have no plan whatsoever and don't know how to run the House or the Senate and they'll be thrown out and the Green Party will be the second major party in America! Ahhh...dreams. [I want to keep this thread open a little while longer to see what others have to say about my 100% true forecast]

I'd love to see you spend an hour at a Maryland public school and get your a$$ kicked.

In the long run it does not matter. "Peak oil" is going to hit us any time now, it does not matter what party is in charge. And in a few decades maybe a century at most, the "technological singularity" will come and it will be either become a cybrog or be rule by them, that assuming peak oil or fundamentalism does not put us back in the stone age first. Yes if were lucky I'll be voting Cybrog Party in 2060!

from those of us that lived thru and remember the "gas lines" of the 70s (what a childhood memory) with the odd license plates get gas on Mon & Wed and even numbers got gas on Tue & Thu, Friday you were lucky if they had a green flag hanging in front of the gas station b/c that meant they still had gas to sell to 1st come 1st serve... you will NOT like being under the democrats (sigh)

Let's not forget the Iranian hostage incident right before Reagan took office (double sigh)

Well peak oil really is not any parties fault, the oil crisis of the 70's was simply that the USA could not suck up enough oil to supply its demand, both democrats and republicans (remember the famous photo of Rumsfeld and Saddam shaking hands) suck up to and manipulated the middle east to import oil, now were suffering from the decades of political manipulation and paying insane fundamentalist for oil. Thankfully once world peak oil hits and world demand out strips production there will be no devil left to make a deal with, unfortunately things will likely get a lot worse then you remember.

I always thought that even though there was becoming less of an abundant source of oil in the middle east that there is still quite a bit and th government just raises and drops the prices to get our money to fund other things in our country. But then again, I always think the government is keeping something from us...

    Or I could be wrong?

It not really the amount of oil that matters, its how much you can suck up cheaply. There oil miles below all of us, it just would not be energetically feasible to suck it up, it would require more energy to suck up then you would get out of it (net negative energy). Lets talk about energy balance: Back in the 1950???s most oil fields you could simple drill a hole and oil would come spurting up from ground pressure, it would take about 1 barrel of oil worth in energy to get 50 barrels. Now days most oil fields are in hard to reach locations, great at depths or require water be pumped down to push oil up, average energy balance now is 1 to 5! Shall and Sand oil has an energy balance of 1 to 2! As the balance drops the price increases and the rate of extraction drops. There is plenty of fossils fuels to burn, we could turn coal into oil in fact, but it will cost $150 per barrel (about $4 per gallon of gasoline) so the hit on the economy is going to be hard, not to mention the hit on the environment.

...................Damn. Okay, I see why prices are the way they are..

What ever happened to Ethenol? The gas made or fueled by corn? I know they say they put that into some tanks now to conserve more energy and help out the atmosphere a bit but why hasn't that been more widely distributed yet? Is it because they don't have it made for every car r because it costs more?

    ???

As someone who is doing research in biofuel I'm all for it! But Biofuel cannot solve all our oil needs, Even if we had cellulose to ethanol (or butanol) and converted all agriculture waste and organic garbage and such into fuel we would only take 17% (17% at present efficiency you know were working on it!) of the gasoline market! We would need a radical increase in farming, sacrifice in food production (no more meat, because meat requires 10 times the crop energy to make compare to eating the crops alone) to make energy crops (hemp and switch grass) we talking about turning 45% or more of all of the USA surface area into farm lands to support replacing gasoline alone! Biofuel are only going to be one part of a multiple answer to solving our energy needs: Energy efficiency, plug in hybrid cars, coal to oil, biofuels, renewable like solar and wind, nuclear (oh the horror!, actually it can be quite safe and much less polluting then coal), sewage and garbage methane, recycling. I've been looking at research on microbial fuel cells that could extract energy from diluted sewage water, it not much but every watt saved or gained counts. These and many more technicalogical approaches together hopefully will wean us from oil and from paying people that want to kill us (the middle east). The sad part is it still going to cost more, not unless some miracle happens and we get extermly-cheap- clean-infinite-continues energy source: http://focusfusion.org/log/index.php but don't get your hopes up.
