That's because they're smaller and therefore less expensive to make. Constructing a giant drill using basic things like gears takes longer, is more difficult, and more expensive then building whatever the modern counterpart would be. Probably some large explosives.

Here's a better question - how the hell can the Fire Nation be technologically advanced enough to build a giant, skyscraper-sized train-DRILL? I mean, look at the rest of the world. Look at the few Fire Nation villages we've seen. I mean, even in real life, I doubt it would be possible to build something like that. Not just in concept, but in terms of... how the HECK would you be able to pay for something like that?! And how would you keep it a secret? Something that huge has how many thousands building it and NOBODY leaked it?

Thats a good question, the only thing I could think of is if it was leaked that perosn might ahave been killed, but the secret seems more like what was discovered in the Library, then just the drill.

Exactly. You're not gonna spend decades building a diversion.

Besides. It DID work. They breached the wall. It's not like they failed.

Yeah they did. Their said objective was to get inside the wall, not just breach it. And if they were trying to breach it then they wouldn't take decades to breach it to have it be destroyed. I kind of was on board with the diversion thing but diversion for what? Ba Sing Se is the biggest thing left.

The FN should have did a air attack along with the drill. Or you know put the drill under ground.

I thought the Drill was going to be something else. like the Northern Air Temple War balloon or a giant fire tank. i never thought it was LITERALLY a giant drill. i thought the drill looked really cool!

even if they did break through the wall, couldn't the earthbenders just bend it back?!!?

Edit Additon - Wait, wait, wait. A minor attack? That much flaw? A distraction? Did we see the same impervious-to-rock-bending, modern-marvel, height-of-technology giant drill?

Also, war balloons would be useless. Why? Picture it. You got this fleet of balloons floating over this Grand Canyon-sized wall. Oh, hey, what are those? Pebbles? Shooting toward us at super-sonic speeds? Oh, darn, the balloon is ripped. I guess we all die.

the fire nation could use stealth, like maybe flying into the earth kingdom at night or having tylee, mai, and azula quickly disable all the guards

Yeah they could. BUT all the FN has to do now is go to the end of the drill and open the front up and walk into the city. But I have a feeling the EK will fix the hole made by the drill.

I got a lot of questions about the drill:
How was it powered, Cuz I didn't see no coal burning smoke clouds to boil all its steam, don't tell me the fire nation switched to cleaner burning NG? Where did they get that much steel? How did they transport it and build it? How did they cover it up so no one could see it? How did they cut so many gurters, it took them forever to cut one through and then they cut like 10 just a half through in minutes! etc, etc.

There is a long, rather tedious explanation for all of your questions, so I'll just simplify it: the Fire Nation is AWESOME!!!

    Lets see.

They use their fire power to heat water. The FN is big on mining. I have no idea, you would think the EK would use raids to stop the building...unless the FN has been driving this thing for miles...
They only needed to cut so far not all the way.

Oh then why don't firebenders do it all, why the f*ck do they need coal at all! You would think cutting one just half why would take only half as long as cuting 1, but they cut 10 in the same time... or cut 10 without looking nearly as tired!
