What really happened on the day Azulan died? (Includes new theory)

    This should be a speculation thread NOT A SPOILER THREAD!?? The question is: What happened to Ursa, Azulan, and why did Ozai become fire lord?

    Popular theories:

    Ursa killed Azulan so that Zuko would be saved.?? Evidence: Turtle Ducks scene "bite you back if you mess with their babies."?? Ursa left with a when she heard footsteps.

    Ursa went in place of Zuko in the sacrofice, after talking to Azula, when she was killed, Ozai fought Azulan, full of rage, killed him, dying, Azulan liked Ozai's strength, gave up throne.?? Evidence: "As what your dying wish, Ozai succedes you"

    Azula killed Azulan?? because she wanted her father to be fire lord, Ursa knew, and ran away, Azula fought Azulan in Ag-ni-kai her deal was that if she won, daddy got to be fire lord.?? Evidence: Azula happy, awake, listened to Ozai/Azulan's talk fully, and said Azulan wasn't great firebender

    My own:

    Azula lied to Zuko and Ursa, Azulan never wanted Zuko dead.?? Ursa and Ozai talked, killed Azulan together.?? Azulan liked Ozai strength, said he passed the test, protecting his son, meaning he could protect his country, Iroh couldn't.?? Wishes Ozai to be fire lord.?? Ursa runs, so as to cover up everything, make it look like it was just her.

    WOW, that was a lot of typing.

    PS: I think Ozai or maybe even Azulan set up Lu Ten's death:??Small Spoiler below:

    My theory is that Ozai killed his father and made up all that bull about Azulon's dying wish being for Ozai to rule the Nation.

    my theory is: Azula wasn't lying about the "sacrificing your first born", but the truth is that Azulon didn't mean Zuko would be killed..instead banished from the Fire Nation and removed from the bloodline...Ursa questioned Azula and she told her everything...Ursa desperate to protect Zuko, she??offers herself up for banishment in Zuko's place...so she dons the black hood and leaves the Fire Nation forever...

    My theory is: Azula lied to Zuko and when Ursa talked to Azula, she lied to her too. Ursa panicked and not wanting Azulon to hurt Zuko she killed him in the middle of the night and fled from the Fire nation forever.

    I don't really think Azula killed Firelord Azulon. After all she's not that psycotic.

    Lets list the suspects:
    1. Ozai killed him, to take the throne.
    2. Ozai and/or Azula killed him, to take the throne.
    3. Ursa killed him, to protect Zuko somehow. 4. Oswald killed him, just because he could. Which sounds most likely?

    me too I think somehow he killed azulon but I wanna know why ursa left

    No it makes so much more sense this way. Ozulon did want Zuko dead, but Ursa sacraficed herself instead to let Zuko keep living. Ozai has always held him responsible for his wifes death and that is why he always will hate his son.

    Remember that Azula told Zuko that Ozai was going to kill him? Also remember Azulon told Ozai (since Iroh's son died) that he's gonna learn what it feels like to lose his first child? You're right about Ursa and the duck thing. I think she killed Azulon because she was making sure nobody would find her, and she left the night Azulon died.

    Ozai's punishment was referring to him having to kill Zuko. As in the Avatar State, she said, "like I haven't done that before." Azula always lies, why would that be ana acception?

    Coolio, your theory makes sence, but still, why would it make Ozai fire lord, it could be that it was Ag-Ni-Kai, and Azulon liked Ozai's strength

    The sacrificing herself for Zuko angle seems more logical when you think about what she was wearing and that she said "everything i've done i've done to protect you"...she put on a hooded robe and left...that's traveling clothes when you don't wanna be identified...looked like she was going into exile...I say Zuko wasn't going to die(Azula made up that part, she only heard the sacrificing your own son part), but was going to be banished(like he is right now) to never return...that's how Ozai would know the pain of losing his first born...he'd have to give him up to keep his own birthright...but i'm still not sure as to how Azulon died and Ozai became fire lord...anyone's guess is as good as mine...but i think i've solved the Ursa disappearance angle(btw if Ursa was banished, it means she isn't necessarily dead)

    lol, good point JasonG about the creators laughing at us.

    I don't understand why we all believe Azula about the sacroficing thing. Why would she tell Zuko that anyway? I think we have to learn more about what was said, we dunno what Ozai's punishment actually was. We just know what Azula said. Also, we have to wonder what was said between Ursa and Azula.
