Hmmm... probably water. Water is awesome cause you can basically do anything with it including making solids (ice).??

It's not about the element, it's about the bender.

    I'm thinking fire.

They had the smallest amount of land (and I'm assuming population, as well) of all four nations, and yet they were able to kick everyone else's a**

I think the strongest element is titanium, although carbon can be harder but more brittle.

I think it depends on the situation, the are, and how strong the bender is.

Mr. Science Guy. Well I'd go for inorganic substances for this case. Particularly one that is actually utilized on the show , but I suppose that was the whole point of the post. ...Yeah.

No such thing, all elements have a weakness.
    Water > fire
    Fire > earth
    Earth > air
    Air > water
It's not what you got, it's how you use it.

actually...water has the smallest population...look at the north pole...it's only 1 city..which isn't that big....and the south pole probably was like that too...

I think a water bender would be the strongest one if they were in a place like the swamp..or a pole...where he has an infinite(almost) supply of water

Its been shown several times on the show that??no bending art??has no inherent advantages or disadvantages over the other disciplines. The series has repeatedly illustrated that it's the skill and prowess of the user as well as the environment they're??situated in??which determines victory. Or something like that.

I'd agree it depends on the bender and circumstances. But the weakest probably are the elements that aren't ever-present in most places, like water. Katara has to carry a bag full of water around to bend with to places that there isn't water. But there's always air around to bend, and earth (when you're on land).

Air and Fire are lucky because they always have their element or can make it

Water and Earth need their elements nearby to fight

Yes but on the other hand, water and earth benders are capable of manipulating their surroundings. It balances out. See how it works? ??
