What if he does have the ability to waterbend. He just hasn't tried to do it. I personally think that they're going to give Sokka waterbending abilities in the third season.

I don't think so. So far we haven't seen anyone realize they can bend anything when they get older, except for the avatar. In fact, we haven't been told why some people are able to bend, and why some can't.

Sokka can't bend. I don't think he should either.

I doubt it. Sokka is the goofy, sarcastic guy who has all the bad stuff happen to him. We can laugh at being hurt Sokka because is not imperative to the sucess of the mission. If Katara gets hurt Aang will feel sad and be too concerned with her safety. If Sokka gets hurt, they(the writers/animators) can easily cut away to a shot of Momo doing something funny.

His job is comic relief, not bending or combat.

Anything's possible. I mean did you ever for once think that Zuko would kiss a girl? But he did. What I'm trying to say is it could come in handy when it comes time to defeat the fire lord.

Personally, I don't think Sokka will ever waterbend. However, if he does end up bending it??could have something to do with Yue, who is now the Moon Spirit. I'm not sure how this would happen, but she is a spirit so she might be able to pull it off.

He's know as "boomerang guy". Not "waterbending guy".

Personally I think that it would be better off if he couldn't bend because what makes him so geat a character is that he can't bend, which leaves him at a disadvantage in most fights and he's always getting hurt, yet he always comes back for more, and still doesn't see it coming.

I agree with BlitzWing, he's the comic relief, and it would begin to look like some little kids show if everyone in their group was suddenly equal.

PREDICTION/POSSIBLE SPOILER::Well, actually I think that Sokka could be the key to defeating the Fire Lord. In a lot of TV shows, the person who cant do much always helps, take for example kim possible: rufus and ron, dont they always seem to make things go smoother even if they dont know kung-fu? Teen Titans: Beast Boy, the FUNNY character and the mess up, he finsihed the season. I dont think they should make him bend at all. Its funny because he cant bend which makes liffe hard on him and for us it makes it funny.

No. Sokka should not bend. But i think he should be more than a comic relief, he is representing all those people the were not born with the "magical powers' of bending, but they still are powerful and and smart, i think using Sokka as just a comic relief, is giving the idea that those who can't bend are inferior. I think they should not be inferior just because they were not born with powers, i think they are even cooler than Benders, because they manege to survive in a world dominated by them, and some of them are outstanding. That's why i think nick should give not-benders more importance, Sokka should not be " comic relief" he should be as important as Aang!

Sokka shouldn't be a bender because it would ruin what his character is...He's the 'normal' one. The one that looks at things logically and doesn't believe in magic or stuff like that if he became a bender it would take away from him.

Besides he's had bending ability for 16-17 years and never knew it? Give me a break

Actually, if he ever did learn, I don't think he would want to. Back at the beginning, he said bending was magic. This obviously shows he is more of the scientific and logical mind. It's absolutly possible, but he wouldn't want to. He might find that in the way of his fighting with weapons, and wouldn't want to develope those skills. So no, he won't waterbend even if he did have the ability. It's just like everybody said: "He's the comic relief guy with the boomerang!"

Well, maybe his power hasn't come out yet. Like Aang, before he was told he was the avatar he didn't know he could bend other things than air and he was in his 12th year

just because you learn a fighting form doesn't mean you'll be able to bend. the bending spirit has to be born into you to give you the ability to bend. and anyway, it would ruin Sokka's character if he was able to bend. he's a very capable fighter now, and i think adding bending to him would be bad. and at the beginning of the series, he seemed quite proud that he wasn't able to bend

uhmm not nesesarly... ancient people from both the earth and air nations learened to bend from simple animals! they did not have special powers they just learened the art of contoling and maztering the power of their native elemet. Therefor , it's problable that anyone can learn bending if they dedicate time and learn the art.

I don't think he should bend. It's just not his charcter. He might have the ability to do it but he believes in science so he probably won't try. Though as a joke during a possible future episode (NOT A SPOILER, JUST A THOUGHT), that he might make fun of Katara by pretending to waterbend by making motions. And suddenly in the background, water starts moving, and really well. Just a sudden thought I came up with.

Yeah, and then Katara will look at him all weird and he'll say "What?". Then the camera will show Aang walking toward them and he'll say "Did you see that guys? I'm getting really good at this!" .

Heh, that'd be very funny. They should do that(the whole pretend bending thing.)!

But on topic, he obviously doesn't like bending..or perhaps he's gotten used to it since the first eppy. And he seems too??Sokka to suddenly bend.??This is a pretty good thought, though.
