Based on society and technology...hat age/century would you say the avatar is in based on Earth-Years?

It's hard to tell because they have things from different centuries in the one, my guess is about 16th century.

its a hard question cause there is a sense of technology in the fire nation, but not in the other 2 ( secluding Air Nomads) id say 1800's for FN and like 1200's for Earth and Water

I don't think it earth (have you seen the map?), so I don't think any century could apply. There was that bit about conquer Chin in the episode "avatar day". The real life conquer chin (Qin Shi Huangdi) founder/conqueror/first emperor of the china lived around ~220BC.

The real world didn't start using metal until just a few centuries ago. I think it would be at least the 1800s in the FN, as stated above. EK and WT would be farther behind than the FN, but I think that's only because the WT and EK can depend on bending for shelter and for other survival things. The EK doesn't use metal because they can't bend it. It is easier and faster just to bend to create quick walls or even cities. The WT don't have many resources at all, and they aren't a very large civilization. For the FN it is quick to make metal and the earthbenders can't bend it, so the FN is doing pretty swell??

talking about FN technology, what stops them from developing Cannons??
They have metal, gunpowder, fire, ships.
just imagine a FN ship with 60 cannons (30 on each side) IT WOULD ROCK!

They don't need cannons. They have gaint catapults shooting balls of fire! No cannon ball could beat that. (But maybe if the cannonball was on fire...) And when did they get gunpowder? I've only seen them with coal.

Ever watched Princess Mononoke? If so, then a question along the lines of, "Why don't they have Guns in the Avatar world?" may arise.??Same thing.

Hard to say any era really. We're looking at an alternate world which is just a mash of different eras.

I'd say the average, 1200's, 1300's, perhaps 1400's at the most.

there smart enough to buld gigantic dills and nice ships, firework, i think the just don't have a clue what a gun is if they knew something of it, it would be there allready do not come with " they don't use gunpowder for destructive things" and wath then in 'the deserter' he used a bomb

beside guns would ruin the show talking about everything and then saying it isn't necesary you would save time just be reading the lower part

If the Fire Nation has??muskets though, it would give the heroes a bigger challenge...even though they were slow to load and inaccurate at range, it was made up for its destructiveness.

A bullet may go too fast for a bender to block in time or dodge in Aang's case, and even if they were able to do block in time...the bullets would probably go through.

But too many parents are paranoid and freak out if they saw guns in a kids show, they probably never watched Looney Toons nor Tom and Jerry...

I could say a mixture of 1400s through the 1800s and maybe the early 1900s.
