Avatar: The Last Airbender Forums

Nickelodeon (ended 2008)

What are they feeding these kids?

Do you want what they're having?

Has anyone else noticed how Katara is a Water bending Master at age 14. She spent like what 3 days with Master Pakku and now she???s teaching the Avatar. He must be some great teacher.

Ty Lee and Mai can take down how many Earth Benders?

The Avatar I can see being a little extra stronger than everyone else but with a Blind 12 year old girl, a water bender, three Freedom Fighters, and a warrior being able to take down the Dai Li inside there own base seems kind of unrealistic. I mean I love the avatar, but don't you wish the fights??were more reasonable?

For the love of sanity people, don't respond to this thread. No offense, but this has been made countless times and often results in war. Because no one can really decide how long Katara trained at Waterbending or how long Mai or Ty Lee spent learning their special fighting art. Do not respond or people will hurt each other.

No, I like the fights just the way they are now. I don't ask how they do stuff because I already know that I'll get an unrealistic answer.

Also, we don't know how long Katara had been training with Master Pakku, but it was definitely for weeks, not days. And it never said that she herself was a master waterbender, she's just master to Aang.

For the record, Katara and the others were in the North Pole for about a month. (evidence: obsserve the different stages of the moon- when Yue kisses Sokka its quarter full and at the seige its full)
So Katara is a waterbending prodigy, like Azula is with firebending. It happens.

Ever heard of training? Must be good at the Royal Fire Academy.

If the fights were more reasonable there would be blood involved at least.

**Raises eyebrow** IS there something wrong with girls who are great at what they do?? I didn't see you mention Sokka, who is a non-bender but is still in the Gaang. And Zuko is supposed to be around 16ish...

And like that one person siad, they TRAINED!! You don't wake up one day and can do sign lauguage or whatever, and so they didn't just get up the day the show started and say "Wow, I wanna be a 'bender today!!".

Not only that, but one thing kids have over adults aometimes is not only agility, but their ability to think outside of the box and create a plan that most wouldn't normally think of. Like, most adults have a tendency to stick with logic, while teens and younger ones have more idealistic and imaginative brains. It wouldn't be hard to take down an older opponet when you have strength from within the mind as well as the physical element of your body.

And am I one of the only people who admire Katara's water bending skills and noticed that she DID train hard even before they reached the North Pole?!

    Thank you!

    No problem.

But seriously, HOW many times has this argument been made by people???

I think you guys are overthinking this. Nick purposefully makes shows that have a timeframe, yet they never hold true after inspection. It's kind of like the whole spongebob thing ( 923 Days of servace!) thats about 2 and a half years. If you're confused.... well I can't blame you.

Avatar is a great show, yet Nick is going to kill it somehow or another

Spongebob and Avatar share different premises and formats. Spongebob not restricting itself to a certain time frame, is alike to many cartoons--it's merely comedy, so time is of little importance.

Avatar, however, is a show with an over-arching plot that spans over an alloted amount of time. It will restrict itself to this time period. Katara and Aang have simply been training for some time. You didn't expect them to make an episode just out of that, did you?

I???m guessing the kids ingest PCP and anabolic steroids on a regular bases, plus sokka most obviously is on meth. Come on! What action pack animated series did not have characters with unholy fighting skills? Aside for all the ones centered around Christian dogma of course in which cause they has holy fighting skill.

Jin looked anorexic or something. I mean, all girls in cartoon/anime shows aren't buff or overly-muscled...But Jin was YIKES!! And she looked like if you blew on her she'd fall over!
