Zuko, Toph, Aang, Sokka, and Katara should all be played by their respective voice actors. Just teach them martial arts, plain and simple. Plus, they know their characters best.

Iroh, how about Chow Yun Fat? If he could pull off a beard. Mako in live action would have been PERFECT for Iroh.

Jet Li could play some bad-*ss firebender for sure! Long Feng could be played by Clancy Brown, his voice actor. He's played bad guys before.

Tobey Maguire as the Earth King.

Harrison Ford could be King Bumi. He's in his sixties, he could be old enough.

Steve Buscemi as King Bumi... he's quirky enough!

(Whoever suggested Jim Carrey as Bumi is correct... that would be frickin' hilarious!)

Naseruddin Shah as the Guru (he was in Monsoon Wedding and League of Extraordinary Gentelmen)

Fire Lord Ozai could be played by Stuart Townsend... he could be eviiiiiiil.

Ursa, played by Charlize Theron (Townsend's woman in real life).

Steve Carrell as Hakoda of the Water Tribe

    Judi Dench and Gran Gran

David Carradine as Master Pakku (perfect!)

    Avatar Kyoshi... Hillary Swank

    Avatar Roku... Ian McKellen

    Cabbage Man... Steve Carrell

Pooldude might delete it though. Or some other mod eventually. Aw well, we can give it a shot.

Who is going to start it? Me?

I guess, DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!

Alright look for it to be posted in a few minutes. I will reference this thread.

Please! Please! Count me in! I'm a very imaginative person! And the Dakota Fanning was my idea first!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but if you would check my introduction to this thread, i mentioned the girl in Uptown Girls for the role of Toph, who was................... Dakota Fanning!?? (although i didn't mention her name)

I'm also a huge fan of that actress whom i consider among the best actors in hollywood not only because of her phenominal acting skills, but for her maturity and congeniality.?? Just looking at her makes one happy.

I would also consider Zhang Ziyi for the role of Azula.?? She's that spoiled fighting genius in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and the Geishia in the movie The Geishia.?? I think she'd be perfect for the role of a beautiful but very, very bad chinese girl who kicks serious arse.

I think David Carridine would be good for the role of Iroh.?? Just one condition.?? He should be more laid back on this role since he's a bit serious sometimes and Iroh is RARELY serious.

Lucy Liu (chinese girl in Charlie's Angels) would be more suitable as Mai.?? Maybe.?? Oh well.

A much younger Brad Pitt would have been perfect as Jet.?? He's got that kind of good looks that screams "Bad Boy!" yet would drive women nuts.

I dunno about this but how about a dark haired Leonardo De Caprio as Zuko??? i know, i know its a bit far fetched, but he did play a 16 year old kid quite convincingly in Catch Me If You Can.?? Convincingly to me that is.

Aang could have been played by Noah Hathaway (when he was around Aang's age) which would be around the time he was Atreyu in the first Neverending story. Katara, I would cast the girl who plays Lana on Smallville-Kristen Kreuk. (probably already mentioned) or she could play Princess Yue. I agree with janedoe401 that a younger Pitt would be perfect for Jet...especially with his attitude in Fight Club.

I think this thread?? is a good idea but honestly part of the overwhelming appeal??of Avatar is the fab-o animation. Live action would detract from that obviously. I wonder how??practical it would be to have the voice-over cast do the live action movie??? I just can't see/hear anyone's voice but Dante B. doing Zuko or Mae W. as Katara. Case in point when my kids watch Jake Long: American Dragon even though I 'see' Jake and Rose, my mind hears Zuko and Katara. Oh yes, it's just that bad. LOL

??The success or failure of a live action movie adaptation of a cartoon show would depend solely on the execution of the story itself.?? A great example of a seemless transition from one art form to another was the superman series starring the late Christopher Rieves.?? Another execellent example is spiderman.?? Before the spidey movies, no one could imagine ol webhead being made into a live action, but now whenever we think spidey, we picture tobey maguire.

So, it IS possible to make a kick arse movie of Avatar.?? Its just very, very, VERY unlikely.

Wouldn't it be cool though, if one of the actors mentioned for one of the roles would actually be reading this?

Hheheheh.?? It would really make my day if someone like Dakota Fanning would be reading this.?? If she is then....

DAKOTA!!!! YOU'D BE PERFECT AS TOPH!?? (you're even her age!)

Amanda Bynes would be a good Ty Lee or?? maybe even Suki...?

I think Amanda Bynes would be perfect as Ty Lee, considering her sense of humor, although??she'd have to raise her voice just a bit.?? Suki is a bit more serious, so i'd go for that gothic chick friend of Lindsay Lohan's character in Freaky Friday.?? Her name is Haley Hudson and here's her bio: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1268839/?? Though she should be about 21 by now,Suki does look mature so i think it wouldn't look too far fetched for her to play the part.

Actually, i do remember someone nominating someone else for Toph's role, but overall, you are right.????A great majority??of the respondents here??favor Ms. Fanning to play Toph.??

She wouldn't even have to audition to get the part, just like what happened at the movie Hide and Seek.?? The director considered it an insult to her acting skill to ask her to audition, and gave her the role immediately.

I didn't know the director did THAT.

Yes, someone mentioned someone else as Toph but it was only once, so I didn't include it.

whatabout Katie Holmes as Katara??? Too old?

Man.?? Its difficult finding popular actors for these characters since it normally takes years for actors to gain recognition and people can be 12, 14 and 16 only once in their life.

um... im kinda goin out on a limb here but, um how about ricky ulman(sp?) as zuko. he could pull it off... if he didnt smile as much. i dont no. and he is used to playing a teenager although he is in his twenties.??dont laugh at me. and i dont really agree with dumbledore/gandalf as iroh. he just doesnt seem to have the same lovable warmth as iroh. or at least not to me. i dont mean to go against anyones idea. i just wanted to say what i was thinking.
