I suppose that Avatar is not a true anime.
It's basically an American cartoon drawn in the styles of anime.
In the losest of terms, you could say that anime is a drawing style that is native to Japan. However many people find this to be incorrect.
But like I said, Avatar is not a true anime, but it is drawn in the style of anime to go with it's East Asian theme in the show.

Ahem, let me clarify something. Avatar is not an anime but is influenced greatly by anime style. If it was an anime then KilalaRose is right about what s/he said.

Avatar is not anime, anime (for somes reason) means a manga (this is not always true though)made into??into a cartoon show??... in Japan and some othe stuff which i dont want say rght now, but nowadays even Japanese producers/etc. send their shows to be animated in the Korean area

i heard it was called AmericAnime
which is a good combination, but less of the Anime except for the part where its made in Asian territory and the series is influenced by Asian culture
