Let us bow our heads in a moment of silence.?? We have lost the actor MAKO who was the voice talent behind Uncle Iroh. This was just reported 5 mins ago on CNN. He died of a esophageal cancer I believe.?? I will update this as I find out more news.?? I hope that Uncle Iroh isn't killed off of Avatar now that MAKO is gone. But just the same, this is really sad.?? He was a great actor.

Well, excuse me. I just heard about it. Don't be smart mouthed about it. Regardless, this talented man is no longer with us. And if I sound a little touchy on the subject, it's because I lost my father on July 15th. Death is death, no matter when someone dies, it is still sad.

hate to sound unsympathetic...but Iroh's voice is a replaceable one...though it'll never be the same...i'll remember Mako most as the voice of Aku on Samurai Jack...and i just heard about this now...guess i should watch CNN more

There are a couple of threads already regarding this as the story broke on Sunday through the LAtimes, plus his bio page has been updated. Many here have been bummed and wondering (as you have) about Iroh's character. The understanding now is that the voice work has been completed through this season, but as of right now no official word as to how this will affect the show.

Currently, my thoughts are with his family.

Its true that one of the great's is gone forever, but i dont think that they will kill off Iroh, nor is his part as "replaceable" as Eman5805 boasts, not to insult, but voices like Mako's dont come around very often, theres more there than just a deep voice. But back to topic, a story like Avatar is one that has been planned out in advance, and the producers arent just going to kill off one of the key characters unless it was already going to happen

I know.?? Mako's full name was Makoto Iwamatsu (sp?), and he was the one who starred in movies such as "Conan the Barbarian".?? BTW, since he was born in Japan in 1933, and came to the U.S. later on, I gotta tell you... was he the one who had been among those sent to internment camps in the U.S. ever since Pearl Harbor in December 7, 1941 (he was 8 years old at the time)?
