i thought she doesn't actually bend the metal, just the impurities inside. so she wouldn't be able to bend firenation metal |
For those of you who have difficulty e-calling it "metalbending", I made up a new term, "metalmoldering". "To molder" means "to rot"; I could not find another suitable verb for "to make brittle". Metalmoldering forces the bendable earth in metal out of formation, thus making the metal brittle.

Now Toph can bend 2 elements, earth and metal. so she's like...half a avatar! Maybe, kinda. |

My speculation: Toph's chakras Earth chakra is blocked by fear. Toph may fear returning to a life in hiding tied by a short leash. Water chakra is blocked by guilt. Toph may feel guilty for not telling her parents before she fled. Fire chakra is blocked by shame. Toph may feel ashamed of not telling her parents sooner about her desire to train more vigorously as an earthbender. Air chakra is blocked by grief. Toph may grieve the loss of the trust and care of her parents. She, at least, misses her mother. Sound chakra is blocked by the lies we tell ourselves (delusions). Toph may believe she can take care of herself, but that it doesn't hurt her to ask for help when she needs some. Light chakra is blocked by illusions. Toph learned how to see the earth in the metal, but I believe that she can still learn how to see the earth in the air and the water, as well. Thought chakra is blocked by earthly attachment. Toph may believe she is attached to her earthbending talents, but she has her intelligence, too. |

I was wondering that myself, and would agree with you. Too bad the air nomads got wiped out thought. Doesn't that mean that the balance will never be restored, unless....Aang decides to do something about it, if you know what I mean . *wink*??

She is bending earth, but it is a more precise skill than run-of-the-mill earthbending. The elements, for the purposes of the series, are Earth, Fire, Air, and Water. |

How cool would it be if the ultimate balance Aang and the GAang bring to the Four Nations is the realization that all the elements are connected, demonstrated by Toph, Katara and Zuko learning all four elements. The Guru said the separation is only an illusion and that all are in one and so on. Toph proved it. |
