Toph isn't the only one who can bend metal I just watched the??The Crossroads of Destiny episode today and it looks like the Dai Li could bend metal since the way they threw the chains it would have been impossible to capture the generals with those chains without manipulating the metal.

    Did anyone notice this?

i thought the chains were rock that they formed at first but i couldnt really figure that out, im almost positive they wernt metal bending though, because when the Guru was talking about metal and it showed Toph trying to bend it he said something along the lines of being really powerful to be able to bend metal,????i dont remember exactaly what he said but i dont think the Dai Li are that "powerful",also im pretty sure we havent seen Bumi metal bend yet, i wouldnt doubt that he can but it wasnt in an episode so far, that im aware

King Bumi definitely did not bend metal (remember, he was captured by the Fire Nation and put in a metal crypt; of course, he might have been playing down his capabilities to save his people, as he told Aang, but I don't think he could bend metal; otherwise, wouldn't he have used it when he fought Aang?).

As far as the audience knows, Toph is the only metal bender.

The chains used to bring down the Generals by the Dai Li were metal; obviously, the earth-bending Generals couldn't have been captured with the rock manacles (not chains) used by the Dai Li on the other characters. Good point by "obsessedchic1" in the description of a device used to launch the chains!

Chain whip. Not precisely what they were, but??obviously??based??upon it, like everything in this show. With practice and time, you can do all sorts of messed up stuff with it. For more information-??http://www.wle.com//products/w210.html.

IT always looked to me that the "hand" part of the chain was in fact earth. That way the Dai Li could bend the earth-hand and the chain would simply go along for the ride.

2.Bumi is a genius he surely wanted to test aang so why would he use his metal bending against aang

IF you're talking about the time the Azula team had Bumi in that box thing, he was able to bend in it and the box too, and Aang questioned why didn't he just set himself free. Then there's the whole explaination I won't get into.
Isn't Bumi like the best earthbender??? The dude is pretty wise.

Am I the only one that actually checks this site when new episodes come out? http://www.nick.com/all_nick/tv_supersites/avatar2/index.jhtml?game_name=avatar_autumn&_requestid=1432638

its one heck of a link, but its a really cool info site. If you go to the Guru (click the spot on the map for it) then to Gear and More (which shows new techiniques/items the Gaang finds) you find this under metalbending:

"This is a type of bending that only Toph is able to do. She is able to do it because in metal there is always a trace amount of Earth. Usually the amount of earth still in metal is so small that it's undetectable even by the best Earthbenders. But Toph is better than the best Earthbenders -- maybe it's because she is blind and has always used the Earth to see -- or maybe it's just because she is that awesome."

So there you have it, straight from the horses mouth.
