I just saw the episode. It wasn't the "tear-jerker" I was told to expect. In fact, it was just disturbing.
*SPOILERS*
One of the reasons I found it so disturbing was because Katara chose to bloodbend again, something she seemed pretty opposed to at the end of whatever the episode was she learned it in (considering she broke down crying). And she did it out of rage, not just anger.
Also, the main issue of the episode wasn't completely solved. As she said herself, she'll never forgive the man. If she can never forgive him, she'll always carry that rage with her, and she'll never be truly happy and she'll never be able to forgive the rest of the Fire Nation. So even though she no longer connects Zuko with her mother's death, she still connects it to the man and the nation he fought for.
I felt like she didn't kill the man because he wasn't really what she was, dare I say, hoping for. I believe she was looking for a person that was pure evil. In her mind, she was villainizing the man for years, making him out to be more than he actually was, and when she found him, he turned out to be a simple coward. At that point, I easily imagined her saying something to the effect of "You're not even worth killing."
The whole episode just made me feel sorrow for Katara. Her hatred is still there, even if it's not directed toward Zuko anymore, which is a very small consolation.
A couple other things I noticed. Azula's grip on reality is weakening, which was clear from the end of "The Boiling Rock." She's losing her calm, and when she finally loses it, that'll cause her to slip and either perish or be captured.
Second, I know how Aang felt at the end of the episode. Sometimes you know what's right and wrong, but they don't always connect like they should in your mind.
Overall, the whole thing was very telling. I just hope they can wrap it all up in less than two and a half hours. They did it right in season 1 and 2. I can only hope they do it right again.
