I think this a measure the gaang should have taken. They should have had gotten the the northern water tribe to assist their invasion during the solar eclipce. How did they expect arebellion of only about 50 people to invade the fire nation capitol and succeed? It was just plain stupid.

They didn't have enough time I think to contact the Water Tribe They were also rebuilding from a devastating attack. I wouldn't call it a fatal mistake though. ;p

First off - what people from the Northern Water Tribe? Zhao's attack pretty much wiped out their population of benders and warriors, and with Master Pakku having taken a number of them with him to rebuild the South Pole, that means there's only a small handful of water benders to rebuild the entire huge city at the North Pole and then defend it.

As to your second comment, there were more than fifty warriors. It's hard to estimate, but just from watching DOBS I'd say that each each submarine packed about 60 men each. There were 5 submarines so that means 300 warriors. Hey, 300 warriors fighting to the death against a massive enemy army and kicking butt?

    This seems strangely familiar...

Having the Northern Water tribe help them wouldn't have done anything more than give the Fire Nation more prisoners.

The whole operation in DOBS was a decapitation strike. It depended entirely on Aang taking out Ozai. If that happened, the invasion would succeed. If it didn't, it wouldn't. Having a larger invasion force wouldn't have mattered one way or the other.

Actually, that's not quite true. As Hakkoda said, the invasion force also had the objective of holding the firenation capital.

The fact is that killing the firelord is not enough. Killing him is all well and good, and if you can get rid of his kids too while you're at it that's even better, but that's not going to solve the problem of the world being owned by the firenation. If Aang had killed Ozai, and that had been the end of it, then it would be quite reasonable to expect the fanatical populace of the firenation to set the world on fire in revenge. Admiral Zhao cannot have been the only ambitious military officer out there - the point is that if Ozai and his family died the firenation would be sad, but they would certainly not simply say "Oh dear, you killed our leader, we surrender". In order to defeat the firenation, you need to take out its leadership - and you need a bargining chip of some sort to seize control of the firenation and end the war. The capital city was just such a chip - as the home of both the firenation aristocracy and almost all high ranking military personell and their families, the threat of it's destruction would have allowed the good guys to bring the firenation to the bargining table and force an end to the war. Unfortunatly, Azula already knew all this and arranged for the invasion to get pwned.

One of the things that I am wondering about the finale is what the gaang will be able to use to control the rest of the firenation. I guess we'll just have to wait ansd see.

Meh, good points...but if the Fire Nation military was determined to retake the city (with or without Ozai's leadership) it would have been done, regardless of whether or not the Northern Water tribe was there.

The Gaang was banking on the elimination of Ozai causing a collapse in leadership, throwing the FN's forces into confusion and disarray.

The fact is that they could have an entire military and it wouldn't have mattered. They FN knew about the invasion ahead of time. So the firelord, aka the primary target would be hidden and the invasion would be waste as it was. So more people just would equal more prisoners, more deaths, and more embarrassment.

Not if the invasion force successfully captured the entire war cabinet. From what we've seen so far, fire nation COs are cowards, who would be more than willing to give an order for the army to stand down if they were threatened the right way, and the soldiers are programmed to obey any order, no matter what the circumstances.

There was alot more than 50 soilders there. And how would the news get to the water tribe in time?Adding them wouldn't help anyway. The FN knew ahead of time because Azula was told when she was pretending to be Suki. And if the invasion did work, then the show would end too early.

so if they won, what was going to happen the rest of the season cause if they did have the northern water tribe, they would have probably won

Are you nuts? The Northern Water Tribe is the biggest group of morons in AtLA.

Person 1: Hey, look! The firebenders have stopped attacking! Now we can use our waterbenders to attack instead of defend. This will be a piece of cake, now that it's night and the moon is almost full.

NWT: What do you mean? How can we attack?

Person1: Haha! Listen to this guy. Always the kidder.

    NWT: ...

Person 1: Um... hello? They are on boats.

    NWT: ...

Person 1: Which are on water.

    NWT: ...

Person 1: Which you can control.

    NWT: ...

Person 1: BEND THE STUPID WATER, MAKE A TYPHOON, AND KILL THEM ALL! YOU HAVE ALL NIGHT!

NWT: Hmm... Nah. We'll wait until they reach our shores before attacking them.

Northern Water Tribe: Dumbest civilization ever.

Suppose the gang did do this and the did infact succeed. Then we wouldn't have a show anymore would we?
