all of them seem Asian, except the water tribe. They seem to be more Native American. Or more specifically "eskimos" I don't know the proper word for it.

Hey, hey, hey, I wasn't trying to be offensive or funny. I did called them Native American. I didn't know the specific word for those that live in the colder region. "Eskimo" is all I could come up with.

Sorry if I offended anyone, that was not my intention.

No no. I was referring (hence the quotations) to that dude (hell if I know his name), I think he's a talkshow host or comedian or somethin,??he's come??right??after Madtv.??Anyway he had a little skit that basically made fun of a buncha??minorities. You'know the typical comedian who can't come up with new creative jokes on his own so he??just stick with the "you ever notice how?" race jokes? Anyway the water tribes guys??aren't influenced by Native Americans, its Inuit (more commonly known as Eskimo).

I'd say the fire nation is Japanese because of their military strength and the importance of honor in their society.

water - inuit/eskimo (this is obvious enough)
air - close to the monks of tibet
fire - mix of chinese and japanese
earth - due to the size of the EK and that it seems to be a relatively decentralized society they seem to have the most variety. some seem more chinese, some more japanese, some korean (look at song). the EK seems to be the melting pot of avatar world cultures

You have to displace reality for a moment, as these are played by mostly american actors.

displacing a lil bit isnt necessary. displacing a lot is more like it. the creators naturally had to adjust the everything in order to draw american audiences. it is an americanized asia point of view. except for the water tribes, they are eskimos.

Water Tribes is a Inuit based civilization.
Air Nomads is a Tibetan based civilization.

Yeah, basically to sum it up, due to being a fictional fantasy show, none of the races are real aside from what's presented (i.e. Katara's race would be Souther Water Tribe). However, they are based on actual races. Here's another nice little list for ya-

Earth Kingdom- Chinese (locations and structures), Korean (certain clothing), Japan (emperor idolizing).
Water Tribes- Inuit (or Eskimo, whichever way you flip the pancake).
Air Nomads- Tibetan and Shaolin monks.
Fire Nation- ancient Chinese Japanese (architecture, clothing and hairstyles; ie wearing white to funerals).

Then to go an extra distance-
    Sandbender-Bedouins
Music Nomads- American hippies (loved those guys)
Foggy Swamp Tribe members- US southerners. Laid it on a bit thick there but I still liked em. And there ya have it.
