The four benders they show in the intro to the series: we know that the waterbender is Pakku and the firebender is Azula. The aribender is possibly Aang though there's been some discussion on that. But as the for the earthbender I have to ask, is that the "Boulder"? The earthbender that fought Toph in the "Blind Bandit" episode? It sure looks like him.

And looks taller, and looks like a guy without a shirt. So it could be the "boulder."

what Phantom_Gurl is trying to say is that; at the beggening of the episode it had one of those- "previously on Avatar..."

It is Toph, but when she was still a boy.

For the sake of clarity, let's just say it's an unknown earthbender.

Toph was a boy? Do you mean when she was fighting as 'The Blind Bandit', or did I just miss something? I'm so confused! But that's okay, I'm like that most of the time anyways.

Yeah, you should probably clarify that, I'm a little confused too. For one thing we know it's not Toph, and there's a slight chance at it being the Boulder (unlikely), but most likely it's a Earthbender Tribe Avatar from the past.

Toph was originally planned to be a boy, but that was scrapped relatively early on.

?? One of my earlier posts today had something to do with this subject!?? I'm glad you are confirming what I was thinking about the intro.

Here's what I wrote in "The Blind Bandit" thread about something I read several months ago:

    mellomuse wrote:
I found some article or forum post in the online version of Kung Fu magazine praising Avatar for its authentic portrayal of martial arts.?? It discussed how an additional martial arts specialist (I forget his name) was being brought in for consultations regarding a special second-season character named Tof.??

If I remember right, it ALSO stated that Tof would be a General and would have a fighting style all HIS own.?? So, it seems to me that the writers' desire to make this character fight and bend differently was around even before Toph's character was fully developed.?? (It also would not suprise me to find that we never see the earthbender in the opening credits; that may have been the first incarnation of Toph.)

The "Boulder" is powerful, but it's likely there's another bender out there that looks like him. The resemblance is uncanny, however.
On another note, I didn't know that Toph was originally supposed to be a boy. She sure acts like one.

The Blind Bandit episode was...okay. Torp is a boy's name isn't it? When they showed her fighting at the end, it didnt surprise me at all. Honestly, Aangs battling with Bumi was more exciting because his move was more visual. As for Toph, all they showed was her blocking and send her opponent flying. Her defence stand was nothing like some earthbending ive seen before though.
