    Toph.

She is the only earthbender we have seen to use Southern Praying Mantis style. This to me says that she invented the style. Before she was a teenager! Probably before she was ten! She's twelve now and has it perfect, or close to perfect, and she had been the champion of Earth Rumble, which I assume was a yearly event.?? Meaning she was good enough at eleven to take out the competition.

She is obviously more skilled with waterbending than most other people with the ability. I think katara is the best fighter.....with bending without it she's just like.....the foaming guy on kyoshi island....pointless. (in battle she isn't pointless)

Please stay off the pipe.Go in the topic that says zuko Vs katara and i already explained why he beaty her.

Hey, Jet is the only normal human who defeated a bender. Zuko might have his hands full.

Him and Ty Lee/Mai. Ty Lee has the really useful knowledge of all the pressure point stuff, which makes her really dangerous. But I'd say the best fighter is Zuko, he has firebending, as well as his broadswords, and I think the combination of the two makes him more powerful, and gives him that edge.

As someone stated earlier Iroh is the best because he uses his mind and remains calm in battle. (I remember in one episode Azula shot lightning at him and he just redirected it then threw her off the boat - that was classic). Anyway from the younger generation I would say Zuko and Ty Lee

All's fair in love and war. During the second fight, Zuko was weak and frozen after the blizzard but that didn't stop Katara from going all out and nearly killing him with her attack. Good guys can make cheap shots as well and it's not fair that they call it cheating because the bad guy won. If you think it was a cheap shot that that's okay, but I think Katara would have done the same thing had she the element of surprise.
Yeah, in life/death battles, ANYTHING goes: throwing sand, kicking a man when he's down, groin shots, whatever it takes to preserve your life and the lives of your comrades.

We're talking about who is the best martial artist sans bending abilities. Katara would actually be the weakest without her waterbending. From my observations, her strikes lack power.

??no, katara could have done to zuko what she did to him the 2nd time they met, but she didn't feel it was right to hurt him so she just tried to trap him. katara>zuko in episode 19.

i think zuko is the best martial artist. katara relies completely on her bending, so whoever said that is definately wrong

Zuko has by far the most determination of anyone in avatar so I would say Zuko.

    IMO it comes down to:

Ty Lee - taking Katara and all those elite earthbending soldiers, it should be obvious why she is here

Zuko - as we have seen several times, his skills with his blades is very impressive

Iroh - many years of experience, though his age probably hampers him at this point

Azula - I'm surprised no one has mentioned her yet, in the very first episode of book 2 they demonstrated that she is more than just a bender, she effortlessly defeated Zuko using no bending at all, only preparing her lightning attack to finish him off. I know Zuko has grown a lot since the begining of the season but I'm still not sure where he stands compared to his sister, I think she may still have a good advantage over him.

Zuko and Jet...and since neither really won or lost(well Jet lost techincally but not cuz Zuko beat him) they tie...Jet was good enough to beat Aang(though he was sidetracked going for his glider staff and Zuko well what isn't there to say about Zuko's fighting skills that hasn't been said already...but again they're too close to call

oh yeah. nvm i change my answer to azula lol

and ty lee only took katara from behind while she was busy freezing the other girl's arm. 2 vs 1 is cheating!

that's true, but not when determining skill.

not saying that she isn't skilled or anything cause she is
