His father did it right before he banished him. They went over that in Book One, Chapter 12 "The Storm"

    Also, it's Zuko, not Suko.

    It is Zuko, not Suko.
When 14, Zuko attended a war meeting where the generals were planning to sacrifice a novice divions of troops as a distraction to EK soldiers. Zuko spoke out in the soldier's defense. This was considered an act of disrespect. Zuko was challenged to an Agni Kai to redeem himself. Believing his opponent to be the general to whom he had spoken out against, Zuko accepted. However, it was in fact Zuko's father, Fire Lord Ozai, who was his opponent, and the Fire Lord that Zuko had spoken out against. Zuko dropped to his knees in a bow and begged forgiveness. Ozai told Zuko to fight him, but Zuko would not since he loved his dad. Ozai saw this as cowardice, and despite being his father and that Zuko was even crying, Ozai blasted Zuko's left eye, close range, with a blast of fire. Because Zuko had not fought back and had pleaded for forgiveness, Ozai saw this as shameful cowardice and banished Zuko. He could only return once he had the Avatar.
And that is how Zuko got his scar and why he is banished.

You can watch practically every episode on Youtube. I've seen 100+ episodes of one show on it before.
