Water benders learned bending from watching the interaction between the moon and the ocean
Firebenders...they havn't mentioned anything yet, but my guess would??be the sun...don't quote me on it, though.

then could it be that all bending skills were learned from animals? because as youve seen in the cartoons apa uses air bending to a certain extent so could the air tribe have learned how to air bend from the flying bison and if so then where did the water benders and fire benders learn their bending from? |

What I want to know is why some of the earth kingdom can bend and some can't if bending was learned by animals. Following this theory, Everyone should be able to earthbend. It's extremely coincidental that the two lovers had the gene for earthbending AND learned it from animals. |

duplicate thread.....anyway, Waterbenders learned from the moon spirit and Airbenders learned from the flying bisons. We don't know what the Firebenders have learned from. They could have learned from the sun or the dragon.

And that waterbendering is enhanced during raining?

Remeber, just because your mom or first cousin or someone was able to bend, it dind't necessarily meant you were a lock for being a bender also. It depended on how strong your faith was in your culture that determined your skills. I think someone mentioned it before, but that's like how Katara has strong belief in the moon spirits and faith in the interaction between the moon and the tides and blah blah blah, while Sokka is quite skeptical (not skeptical, but like just not really as concerned about it)when it comes to it, and he has no bending skills. It just all depends on your faith. |

Well...Zhao wasn't very harmonious to nature in fact he was anti balance trying to destroy the moon and all...I say it's 100% genetic.

I think the creators said it was both spirit and genes. |

As I've said on well basically a bunch times this was asked, the creators??haven't settled on that so as you said, "its??kinda both" (they said the exact same thing).??So??its??pretty much a??whole mess of argueing and speculation until they decide to pull something out. Wow that just??about summarizes, ah well.??

I hate being wrong, ...... I am such a dork |
Well I have good news and bad news. Bad news is that you're wrong about the bending issue...and about a great many other things I'm sure. But you're right about being a dork.
Oh yes what is that sound?...It's the sound of a burn.
Well,?? why don't we look at it this way; has there at any time in the series been a person that wanted to be able to bend but wasn't?
Oh and about the air bending thing, I think I read somewhere that air bending had been learned from the fly bison, that is why they are held in such high regard by the air nomads.
So Earth came from badger moles, Air from Flying bison and Water from the moon.
