This??topic is kinda already known, Zuko is very well portrayed as the saddest, as you put it, character.

zuko's the saddest. i'd be too, if my dad blasted me with fire ad rejected me.

Zuko has no one to play the papa and teach him to grow up except iroh who is too busy stirring tea.
Sokka had a gran-gran and a sister and all those punk little kids to keep him company.
Aang still gots his appa and his katara whom he loves and his sokka whom he annoys and his toph whom he respects.
Toph got's no sights and her parents are dumb but they still love her and she has all her friends to keep her company.
Katara lost her mama, as did sokka but he's never really expressed the pain of the loss as much, and she don't got her papa to teach her. But she still got dem kids and gran-gran and now the avatar.
Iroh gots no son no more which is much worse than losing a parent, and he lost his throne, and he lost his status, but he can bend lightning so he must be alright on the inside.
Azula should die.
Ty Lee had to give up her circus life. boo hoo.
Mae seemed to be a 'glass-is-half-empty' person but she still had a papa and a moma and a brotha and her friends.
Cabbage guy seems to have the worst luck ever, but at least he seems to get from place to place all right, and his cabbages miraculously never run out.
Long Feng smells funny.
Earth king needs to get out of the palace every once in a while and get himself a tan, he's too white for a china man.
Appa has the saddest story of all. He froze for a hundred years and when he woke up he hadn't taken a shower for who knows how long. True aang hadn't either, but at least he hadn't hit puberty yet. poor appa. poor, poor appa.

i think its either iroh or aang... iroh lost his son... that is one of the worst things anyone can go through... and almost everyone aang knew is now dead... that sux...

you know, I really feel sorry for Aang and all because all his poeple are dead. however, Zuko's got it worse cause the people are there...??but??they rejected him for doing the right thing.?? Honestly, I think it's worse to be ignored and rejected for doing what he did.?? Also, he's an outcast on both sides.?? I mean, the fire nation rejected him, and everyone else rejects him cause he's fire nation so he has to hide.?? Aang doesn't deal with being an outcast or not having friends.

even though I'm pretty sure this has been discussed multiple times I'd like to take this oppurtunity to express that Aang indeed has it the worst. He is the only survivor of a genocide, everyone save for 2 people he knew as a child is dead (Appa and Bumi),??not to mention??that he has the burden of being inadvertedly responsible for all of that. And unlike most of the other characters he has little to no time to mourn for his losses since he kinda is responsible to end a war before a very strictly set date. oh ya and he has to deal with all of this before he is even a teenager.

Not Sokka. If you haven't had someone die/disappear on you, you can't be the saddest.

Same for Toph, she's just a regular teenager who's also blind.

Zuko probably is, but I do like Aang being the survivor of a genocide.

Edit: Just realized Sokka had his mom die on him. Bleh.

This makes me think about a comparison to FMA. It seems weird that Avatar is so much lighter, yet there's been almost as many people influential to the main chars die on this show than in FMA. I suppose there hasn't been as much actual struggle in this show's time frame as compared to the backstory. Makes me wonder why Zuko's so screwed up. I suppose it's all comes back to his father and his sister.

I vote Zuko because he is the one that had the most inner turmoil.?? Hence his inability to cast lightening.

Aang, I think. He's lost everyone he's ever known (except Bumi and Appa), he's the last known survivor of mass genocide, he's got to save the world before he's a teenager, and people are trying to kill him and his friends.
