I'm sure I'm not the only one who has noticed it, but doesn't it seem odd that they conceal the faces of the powerful rulers? First it's the Fire Lord, and all we know is that he has a beard. Now the Earth King is the next one, and we can tell he has glasses and a necklace of large beads. The Air Monks didn't exactly have a "ruler" per say, and we had to see the Cheif of the Norhern Water Tribe since we didn't have a silouete. Why do you think they would do this?

Wow, he doesn't really look like a king at all. I wonder what Long Fei meant by the king only being an icon, and he didn't have anything to do with "trivial military" issues. Probably that Long Fei was the "real" king, or something?

In our current world, most monarchs have little to no power and all the government and military power would go to various ministers and advisors. Take the United Kingdom. The queen doesn't have a lot of power, but is still revered and respected by her subjects. I suppose in that sense, the Earth King ain't much different.
Actually, could you see if you do that on the Fire Lord, or would you need a better picture than what has already been seen?

Are we absolutely sure its the King ? I mean If some one actually announced him as "The King of Ba Sing Se" that I'll accept it but for all we know he could be the Royal bear trainer. Even if some one called him 'majesty' or 'highness' it wouldn't really prove that the guy is the King. After all Azula is a 'Highness' . I'm pretty sure no one did, but I might of missed it (which is probably the case) and I'm being lazy by not going and double checking. Plus I wouldn't put it past that evil warden dude (Long Feng?) to run a charade with one of the other royals of Ba Sing Se.
