A hundred year war has torn the world apart. One of the four races are all but completely decimated. And the attitudes of nearly 1/3 of the world for over a hundred years are being expected to change abruptly.

Admittedly, many citizens of the Fire Nation were victims of its oppressive culture. Or at least a fair portion. Yet, still, there are many others who thought the war was nothing but beneficial. Those who spread propoganda throughout the empire throughout all the war. And certainly those who believed it. I think we're all sure they wouldn't accept the values being instilled upon them by a man who has been branded a traitor. It also doesn't help that this man is barely even that, at 16 years old.

So will there be revolts? No question about it. We don't know how long the coronation of Zuko was after Sozin's Comet, but we can assume it was around 3 months. What kept them? Was it organizing everyone to come? That could be it, but there would be protesters because of it. Aang's insistence on peace would assuredly force them to come up with a peaceful solution, but what if there was none. What if the gaang decided to ignore it? But these people aren't afraid to lose their lives. They probably have lost family in the war, and have been raised to support it since they were children. Now it's all over? On a day when the Fire Nation was supposed to bask in its greatest glory yet?

Then there's the Earth Kingdom. Essentially the same, but on a different side of the spectrum, as they were the ones being terrorized by the Fire Nation, the Earth Kingdom and Water Tribes don't want anything to do with the Fire Nation. Most anyway, as we've seen from Zuko Alone. These people certainly won't be against peace, as they have only really been on the defensive (from what we've seen anyway) throughout the war, but they won't be attempting to blend cultures anytime soon. Too much bad blood, unfortunately.

Can we really expect the war to just be forgiven? That some people were wrong and because they're sorry now (as few will be -- this generation didn't cause the war) they should just love each other? We don't know what propoganda has caused some people to hate the surrounding nations (although Zuko does say in DOBS that they were raised to believe the war was altruism, the Fire Nation simply spreading their culture throughout the world) but feelings won't be eased.

You could say Aang and Zuko's friendship could 'set an example' for the rest of the world, but will the Fire Nation that easily respect a leader who, not long ago, was the object of hate for the entire country? The Earth Kingdom and Water Tribes will likely respect Aang and be peaceful, but still hold hate towards the Fire Nation. And as long as there is hate, we can't honestly expect reconstruction to start.

I agree with you. But its a childrens show. Although, for the sake of keeping this thread alive, I will say this: I think the Water Tribe will come to terms with the FN. They will look at the examples of Katara, Sokka and Hakoda. But eventually, everyone will come together again. Not in the near future, and there will always be stereotypes, hatred, nationism, etc.

But the Water Tribe was also always neutral to the war. The only people who were constantly attacked were the Southern Water Tribe. And of course there will be a good amount of people who will try to spread peace and stop prejudice. Unfortunately, they aren't in the majority. We could look to the small Earth Kingdom town that Zuko stayed in briefly. He bonded with a young child and saved the town, but in the end, what did they do when they found out he was Fire Nation?

I said it was going to take years, maybe even a generation or two, before the four, well three, nations stop prejudicing eachother: Earth and Water thinking all Fire Nation citizens are evil, blood thirsty destroyers, and as we saw in Ember Island Players, Fire Nation citizens also judge EK and WT people. Once the three nations learn they are all alike, in the way they take care of family, have a job, try to make a living, etc, then maybe recontruction can start.

The Water Tribes, IMO, shouldn't really be counted as neutral, seeing as they were both attacked by the Fire Nation. Also, Zuko even admitted that there were scars that would take time to heal. It'll be a long, long journey, but somehow it'll work out. I'm sure the earthbenders will put up a big fuss because they don't let anything go, but after that things should slowly go back to normal (pre-war)

What piques my interest is how Aang would respond to a revolt in the FN. It is the Avatar's job to keep balance between the four nations, but it is not his job to settle political disputes amongst one of the nations; at least, this is what I surmised from Kyoshi'a reluctance to stop Chin or the peasant revolt in BSS. If there was a revolt, would Aang help his friend and in the process possibly abuse his powers or would he remain disinterested?

The draw to keep balance in the world is much more important then not interfering with social issues. Especially when they relate so poignantly to this.

I think that Aang would interfere with a riot. Think about it. He has spent pretty much the entire series saving various villages and towns around the Earth Kingdom and Fire nation from destruction. I don't think this is much different.

What a lot of you are forgetting is that minus military and industrial officials in the Fire Nation, the rest of the World WANTS. They WANT the Fire Nation off of their land. They desire peace. Sure, there are people who hate the Fire Nation but above everything they just want the war to be over and to stay over.

I'm saying for the most part that the main problem is the Fire Nation. We've seen the propoganda they spread. I'd say about 75% of the entire country would rather there be a war.

But, as shown in The Headband, the people of the FN have a twisted version of what the war is really about. I think that, if shown the actual war and its reasons, they would shy away from the idea.
