Not that that wouldn't be cool or anything, but Sokka is definately of the Water Tribe, he has dark skin and blue eyes. He would have figured out if he was??a Fire Bender by now, they must learn at an early age. In Zuko Alone in one of his flashbacks we see 9-year-old Zuko and even younger Azula firebending. I think that they discover their talents at a fairly young age.

Also, there's various instances that have shown he is who he is.?? The Water Tribe would never take a child of the enemy.?? And if they did, they wouldn't treat him as family.?? The biggest bits of evidence is probably the flashbacks in Bato of the Water Tribe and the way the tribe treated him in the first few episodes.?? Had he been old enough, the warriors would have taken him.?? And Sokka took his father's request to watch over the tribe to heart.?? The tribe allowed it.

For Sokka to be left behind and been given the identity he has, he would have to have been an infant.?? And he definitely would have used firebending at least once in the show to save himself or someone else, regardless of his fears of Katara seeing.

How about this idea for a Sokka backstory?

Years ago, out in the open waters just north of the Southern Water Tribe a large Earth Nation boat holds position. Tied next to it is a small Water Tribe canoe. Inside there are two men talking, and a small boy laying on an operating table.

"Are you sure you want this operation done? It is only used on worst kinds of people."

"I know, but it's the only way. After my wife died, he's been filled with such rage. I've seen too many men die with that kind of rage in their eyes."

"Alright. But even if all goes well, it was never meant to be used on a child. He may be able to adapt to the restrictions on his body, but he may never reach full potential. And I can't even think about what may happen to him should the beads be removed."

"What about his mind? What effects might this have on him?"

"The beads only alter the workings of the body, the state and development of his mind will be preserved."

The doctor preforms the operation. It was specifically designed to block the chi flow in benders, and was used in the extreme cases were a bender could no longer be trusted or contained by conventional means. A set of small glass beads are inserted along the boy's muscle pathways that correspond with certain movements.

Later, the beads can be removed allowing Sokka to reach greater fighting abilities. Making him an equal fighter to the other members of the group, who are continually learning new bending abilities.

Opps. I forgot to comment on the Topic. Not bad, but I doubt that he would from the fire nation. A little too far fetched.

Yes. Let's give him adamantium claws as well. And make him a vampire with a gun who can turn into various other monsters when he uses his special abilities.

Not that I don't like your idea [purposely blocking the chi does sound like an interesting theory], I just want to give you grief for coming from left field.
