Remember in the Winter Solstice way back in S1 when Roku said that once the comet arrives not even the avatar will be able to restore balance or beat the firelord, well aang did beat the firelord when the comet came.

Does this sound like a plot hole for avatar?

He said if you don't defeat the firelord before summer's end. And he probably meant if you let Ozai use the comet to burn the whole earth kingdom down, there's no coming back from that.

Roku didn't know that Aang would learn to energy bend, something that all past avatars probably never learned.

but yea, it seemed like after all that, Ozai wasn't really anything special

yes but even with energy bending. in the AS Aang whooped ozai's butt pretty easily, and i bet roku accounted for that in his speech

Of course we can always re-watch the episode....

    *Watches episode*

Roku tells him that Ozai will try to end the war with the comet's power. If Ozai's plan is carried out, which means the comet comes and goes and Ozai destroys the Earth and Water tribes, the Avatar can not restore balance.

Since it didn't happen, no plot holes.

who says roku could see into the future, aang had barely grasped water bending... by the time he faced the firelord he had basically mastered water/earth and since the comet was there his fire was pretty top notch too.

you've gotta realize, that even w/o the avatar state everyone (besides aang and his gaang) including the firelord thought that in a normal battle without the comet the avatar would win... so considering that and how ozai did beat aang before he entered the avatar state, the comet seemed to have made a difference, they prolly woulda been evenly matched if there was no comet. With the avatar state tho, there was no question who was gunna win.

Also realize that roku most likely didn't think aang would be able to control the avatar state by the time the comet came... (and for all you who don't think aang could control it...) all the past times he was in the avatar state for a few seconds really and just destroyed everything without thinking, while with the firelord he was actively aware and even stopped himself mid avatar state, not to mention he wasn't tired after the fact.

that also reminds me before the talk of "it's lame how he was unable to enter the avatar state till his back got bumped"...

what prolly happened, and this is just a theory, when his back got jabbed his subconscious (or the avatar spirit) reopened his chakra out of shear neccessity.

i'm saying that roku would've accounted for the avatar states power when warning aang of the comet, it doesnt mean roku could see the future but had faith that aang could master all 4 elements and the avatar state would be with him

and as an above poster said, if aang hadn't been standing in the firelord's way he would have annihilated the earth kingdom and left no chance at balance being restored

But I honestly think that by the end, Aang did indeed master all four elements.
Also, did anyone realize that in the episode, "The Avatar State", the past Avatars had a brief glow? And at the end, when Aang was about to clear the land with water, his eyes briefly glowed, which in my theory indicates his full potential Avatar powers.

yea, the part where he cleared the land showed that he's mastered the avatar state, but I still don't think he's finished fire, and until he's as good as bumi he won't have mastered earth completely
