    They probably thought it would look cooler with Aang in the Avatar state.

    I'm sure Aang will at some point during the finale go into the Avatar State, especially seeing all the latest poster previews.

    It was said on the bonus disc that came with the season 2 box set that Aang's avatar state was merely injured. So, by the finale he could be able to enter the Avatar state once again. Hopefully.

    I seem to remember that they gave that to everyone at the Avatar panel at New York Comic-Con.

    EDIT: And someone told me that the first poster of Aang going glow was the free pull-out poster that came with the accursed book. You know the one...
