LADIES AND GENTLEMEN ~ WHY FIREBENDERS CAN BEND ELECTRICITY I'm settling this scientifically ONCE AND FOR ALL!

I know that there is a spiritual aspect to bending, but there is also science involved *pulls over a chalkboard*

Iroh No power in firebending comes from the breath not the muscle, the breath becomes engery in the body and extends past the limbs to become FIRE!

Ok so heres the magic word - Energy

Unless for firbender to turn breath into energy the process of celluar respiration must be invovled

Wiki Quote "In a fire there is a massive uncontrolled release of energy as light and heat. Cellular respiration is the same process but it occurs in gradual steps that result in the conversion of the energy stored in glucose to usable chemical energy in the form of ATP."

And unless for cellular respiration to occur, there must be oxygen to make that energy.

So that explains how the breath becomes energy in the body. And firebenders must possess the special ability to control that process subconsiously (yeah obvious)

So --- why in the heck can they control lightning?

Lightning and any Electricity for that matter is also a form of energy. And suprise suprise

Wiki Quote "Flames can conduct electricity, as a small portion of any fire is ionized. This has been demonstrated in the laboratory and also in large wildfires that occur in the vicinity of power lines. This ability to conduct electricity is due to it's partially plasma nature."

Firebenders breath in... cellular respiration takes place... oxygen becomes engery... firebenders control the energy past the limbs to fire...they can control electricity too because flames can conduct electricity... both contain plasma... and a firebender can control both

Azula wasn't multi-bending... *Glomps Zula* Thank you for proving my fears invalid!

And you bet I'm right about Bending is spiritual. I also have more evidence. In the Avatar booklet it says the Airbenders were the most spiritually enlightened, but that also all Nomads are all Airbenders! Strange coincidence, don't you think?

Now I'm off to the beach.

That episode rocked! And the reasons for lightning bending make a lot of sense. So does the waterbending.

And when Aang got hyped up on tea... priceless. I fell out of my chair laughing.

And Yipee for Iroh! At least some members of the family sticks together. Does anyone know what the the blade tehy used to cut off their hair said?

I'm right with you! Plus, I love Zuko for his CHARACTER, rather than just his looks *but I do love his scar *

The episode... just wow. I seriously almost cried when I saw Aang in that position, actually CRYING and begging the general to stop. That really just... wow. And the whole thing with Zuko and Iroh, I was screeching for about a half-an-hour after seeing the episode, trying to take it all in. (personally, I wish they had done an hour long thing. It seemed a little rushed)
In relation to what someone said before (I forget who, it was further back) I seriously thought Zuko was about to kill himself for a second as well. I just completely forgot that it was Nickelodeon and was like, "Gah, he has that knife pointed at his chest!"

Great way to kick off the season- it was hilarious, yet still knew to calm down and take the episode down a darker path towards the end, just like the other great avatar episodes. I really hope we get to see what happens with Zuko and Iroh next episode, but I don't think we will. (While it's never going to happen, there's this uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach that we won't see them that much this season... but I worry too much.)

Yeah I'm still a raging Zuko fan no matter what he does with his hair/lack there-of

But I worry that we won't see Zuko (and Iroh) for a few episodes now, so that the next time we see him enough time has passed for his hair situation has evened out. I wonder how many temporary-character-design-alterations-per-episode the animators can afford?

That may be the only reason they have the lightning bending.

this episode was so good. I liked the drama, but i mostly liked the scenes with zuko and iroh. I really like iroh and after this episode it really seams iroh is zukos only protection, meaning iroh might leave later in the season. Also i missed the opening credits, did it change?

The opening credits didn't change, but my little sister and I joked that it would be changed to metal.

Yeah, Zuko's still hot, but he does look younger without his ponytail.

If the writers and animators try to stay realistic, then his hair will remain short all season long. Each TV season is supposed to occur over about a 3 month period (one earth season), right? If Zuko's hair grows at a normal rate, that means that at most it will only grow about an inch and a half. Now that his 'do is undone, I wonder if he will go ahead and grow out the rest of it too?

That's been explained a couple of times. It was basically their accepting that they are never going to be able to return to the fire nation; the hair was sort of like a symbol of their honor and status as members of the royal family, or something else like it. (Ancient Chinese Culture)

You're thinking too much about this lightning thing. Mythologically, lightning was considered to be a form of fire(a "pure" form). That's it.

I wonder if any of the other elements have any specilized disiplines like that.

AHHH! *hits head on desk* Thats what I JUST said.... Fire and Electricity (lighting) are similar forms of energy, and its true it's not a myth. Fire can conduct Electricity thats why they are similar... and I'm having a Sokka Spaz attack
