I think the funniest line was definitely Iroh's "Sick of tea? That's like being sick of breathing!", but Toph's "Have you been hitting the cactus juice again?" was priceless, too. Sparrowkeets???Well, not the most interesting hybrid, but seeing a pet shop in their world was interesting. Poor Jet. He??may be obessed, but the fact is, he was right; he just didn't handle the situation right. Is it just me, or do the paranoid ones always fall victim to the government conspiracy first? |
THANKS I SEE IT ON YOU TUBE BUT THE SECOND PART CUTS WITH KATARA AND TOPH DISSCUSING.
This was my reaction to this episode for about 5 straight minutes:
WOW.????
I too did not like the cutaways from the fight, but overall it was good.?? The hayseed decapitation was cool. And the Zuko table-balancing act reminded me of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon".?? I was not at all surprised that the fight ended with Jet getting arrested... but I was surprised that he quickly became, you know, example #1 of what happens when sombody messes with the Dai Li.??
Does anyone else suddenly feel very, very sorry for Jet??? He causes his own problems, yes.?? But he could do so much good if he'd let go of all that hate.?? (Hmm.... sounds like Zuko from season 1...) It was so pathetic when Iroh was calling him "son" and trying to get Jet to stop... he knew Jet would either get chopped up or taken away by the cops.?? ????Jet reminds me of Matt Dillon's character from "The Outsiders."
I am hoping against hope that somebody rescues him before he gets turned into a male "Joo Dee."

I LOVE THIS EPISODE. The politics and smart humour, ok for those who don't like politics and city structures this won't be interesting but you have to READ BETWEEN THE LINES. The poorer people are on the outskirts of Ba sing se, that means if it is ever attacked they would go through them first giving the middle class and waelthier class time to escape or plan an attack back. The theme is bit more complex and dark for an avatar episode so I can see how people would like to talk about the jet/zuko fight or the party but honestly this episode was so much more. I give it two thumbs up! |
I totally agree. The whole time I was watching this I kept thinking about the Soviet Union or Communist China. It was really amazing how well the creators did on trying to make Ba Sing Se look good, but everyone knows it is a fake security. This is by far one of my favorite episodes. I hope there are more like this.

Mellomuse, I did not enjoy the Jet vs. Zuko fight because
the whole time I was already grieving for Jet. It was obvious what was going to
happen to him as soon as he yelled "FIRE NATION." To tell the truth
I'd rather see him as the dead man than a Joo Dee. If he had been killed at
least he would have died as a human instead of being reduced to a will-less
shadow.
Ba Sing Se reminds me of 1984. The novel 1984 takes place in a dystopia where
there are three classes of people as we saw in Ba Sing Se; low, middle, and
high. When people start making noises, rebel against the government, or break
the law citizens are taken away and brainwashed until they are thoughtless
drones. In fact, even the clever citizens who believed in what their government
was doing were taken to "camps" and brainwashed. Why did this befall
the proud nationalists? It was because those in power didn't want the classes
beneath them to possess the ability of THOUGHT. Stuff like this happens in our
world too. If folks didn't keep quiet during in the Third Reich they were taken
away, and if you began asking where your neighbors went say goodbye to the
sunny side of life. In China
today those who appose the government are "re-educated."
1984 put the devil???s fear in me of absolution. And absolution,
my friends, is totalitarism tyranny.
