Doubt it. Sokka's not in his warrior outfit so it's probably before the big bang boom. He's also missing in that scene with June in the bar brawl. This makes me think he leaves on his own to master the Avatar State. What the rest of the gang is supposed to be doing in the meantime is the real question. Since Sokka still has that Lotus tile, I'm sure it has something to do with our favorite secret society we all know about.

Now can someone with good eyes tell me if that's a huge ball of water behind Katara or a giant blue fire blast because I can't tell.

That would be a huge fire blast and I heard a day or so back that in one freezeframe you can make out Azula. We got a one-on-one going on.
