    If aang can take away bending wouldnt that mean he can also give bending abilities

    That would be great if they do some type of special where he gives people the ability to airbend so there could be new airbenders

    Theoretically, the only difference between the avatar and the rest of the people is the reincarnation - Avatar State and the fact that he has 4 element bending from the birth.
    2, 3 or 4 element bending might be achieved by others, provided that they are guided by a spiritbender, but I believe the cases may be something like 1 in a 1000000(not many spiritbenders out there either). But with Aang's spiritbending and the lack of airbenders that might change.

    I could see this, that actually kind of makes sense. But I think the people to be given airbending would be the mechanist and his people. Aang would just make anyone an Airbender...

    And Sokka doesn't have bending abilities, if they gave him that power, it would be kind of dumb I think...

    This fits in with the spirit bending theory i had since the time lapse between season 2 and 3 on the What if there was a new nation. | 07/23/2007 thread.
