We were sent by Jeong Jeong to meet up with the main force at the gates of the city.". "Jeong Jeong?" she asked. "Oh, he was the leader of?? the rebel movement and a friend of the Avatar. Anyways," he said tiredly. "We were ambushed. A member of our group sold us out for the promise of protection." What happened to him?" "He was murdered in his sleep by a palace guard. He should've stayed and fought. He would have died with honor, not be shamefully??killed in his sleep."

"So how'd you get here?" she asked. "I was captured. I should've died but I wouldn't go down. They thought it would be fun to keep me as a gladiator." he replied. "Thats horrible." she said. "What was worse, I had to watch them bring back my dead companion's bodies back from the ring." he stopped for a second, then continued. "One day I couldn't take it anymore, I killed the guard who laughed at my dead friends, he mocked them and I couldn't stand it. I had killed before but because I had to. I killed him because I could. The other times in the ring I had a spear or a broadsword to fight with??but I slashed his throat with my bare hands. Even after he was dead, I was still stabbing him. That was my first encounter with Death's funhouse. Thats what made it happen."

"Made what happen?". "After that day there was a voice, deep in my head that whispered to me. It told me to kill. Slowly after seeing 5 years of death and pain I began to listen. I was already a savage fighter, but once the voice took over the only thing that could stop me was the voice itself, or a satchel full of shirshu darts." he??said. "What happened then?" she asked. "Well I can't remember, most of its a blur. One kill after another, all of it seems the same after awhile." he finished. "So here I am, the freak who's killed a thousand men." he chuckled, or tried to. "Well, how about you?". "I was a traveling companion of the Avatar. In fact, I taught him earthbending." she smiled. "My name's Toph,"she said, leaning out into the light, showing her eyes for the first time,??"and I think we're gonna be good friends."
