Bryan and Mike weren't hyping anything. Shipping hype comes from YOU PEOPLE. If character A has screen time with character B and they aren't at each others' throats(and sometimes even when they are) that's seen as some crazy foreshadowing of them winding up together. I'll never understand why people care so much about it, but if it keeps them watching the show, so be it.

But shipping is a terrible reason to watch a show. And it saddens me greatly when I hear people Bryke bash when their ship doesn't come through.

Though Bryke make some hype about the shipping, but they do it for the lulz. The probably is, serious shippers get butthurt about this and moan and whine that Bryke were teasing them. Yes, they were teasing you. Because you make it so easy.

    Shippers..

The sad thing is, the rabid shippers make up the bulk of our fanbase. The truth is, if it wasn't for zutarians, the Avatar community might not be big enough to survive. Think about it, would a smaller community really wait through nine months of hiatus? Not likely. But because the community was so big we stuck through it. And if it wasn't for the fanbase the show would really be nothing. This is what happens with cult following shows, they rely on the fanbase. tl;dr version: no shippers=no Avatar fanbase.
just like with naruto if they killed sasuke it'd lose half its fans

If Naruto still has fans, they won't lose them by killing Sasuke.

    Oh, snap! Take that!

And it's probably true. Sasuke is one of the reasons (of many) that I got annoyed with Narutu: Sand Ninjas. And the fact that they spend I don't know how many episodes looking for Sasugay (hurr, hurr) Mainstream animu sucks.

alright settle down now we don't want a flame war. but admit it some shows couldn't work wthout a certain character. like if they replaced katara with a guy there'd be fewer fans

Yeah, we don't want to start a flame war... *hides Katon War No Jutsu Scroll*

Just to settle a few things:
Yes, the anime spends WAAY to much time on useless things [2 friggin episodes on taking Orochimaru's soul >.>] but the manga is much more direct, and the manga is what actually matters.
Indeed there is too much focus on Sasuke, infact, currently on the manga [wich is 2 sagas further fromt the anime and 4 sagas and 100 filler episodes further from the dub] there were like 50 chapters about Sasuke with a small appearence from Naruto every now and then, about 2 pages each time >.> but atleast that's over, and now Naruto is going to develop his character because of his whole phail thing, the Jiraiya situation and the "Key" thingy

    Lol. I agree.
Especially the fan fiction. I'm going to admit, there are limited amount of stories that grab my attention when they're based around Zutara. I've seen novice ones that base the same idea: 'Zuko kidnaps Katara, feelings spill, and they have a smexy-fun-time.' I've found two thus far with great creativity.
The fan art comes at different levels. If it's bad, obviously, no. But, I find a majority of great Avatar artists to be Zutarians (along with their work).

No offense to any ship. You never know...I could be a closet!Zutarian.

You don't know bad fanficts until you've looked at some of the stuff the Naruto fans have written.

Waaaaaaay to many of them are something like, "Sasuke and Itatchi are locked in a staring contest! Who will give in before their eyes get so dry they shrivel up and fall out fo their sockets? Meanwhile, Sakura, Garaa and Naruto are locked in a closet with a bunch of chinchillas! Who will come out ALIVE?????????"

But don't get me wrong, there ARE some good naruto fanficts out there, just like zutara).

Someone mentioned somewhere that the Avatar fanfics are backwards; the straight pairings tend to be crap, while the slash are interesting and more so well-written.

I never really thought of Mai's comment about orange being an awful color. Are the writers trying to say something?
