As has been noted, there doesn't seem to be much else to say on the thread. New concerns, or requests for clarification, can be PM'd to staff and forum moderators, or posted in the
About the Forums - Ask the Mods forum. New ideas for how TV.com should manage forums can go in the
TV.com Ideas forum. With that, the moderators and staff would like to note the following.
First, there seems to be some confusion. Staff members are danmod, nilla_chelle01, and jaxiecracks. They are not typically involved in day-to-day moderation issues, although they are kept up-to-date on problems.
Forum moderators are angelandspike, GeorgeFergus, Gislef, grailwolf, studog2961, and Villafan. Reports go into a queue and are handled by any and all of these moderators.
TVCom_Moderator is an ID used to represent all moderators speaking as a group.
The show editor is High00Lord, who also has the ability to moderate the
Avatar forum.
Any of the above can create off-topic administrative messages to address policy and submission issues. Anyone else doing it is off-topic, and should post to the appropriate general forum as mentioned above.
Other items:* The Lisa situation, although unfortunate, was caused because a user was careless with their password. It was clearly no casual hack or impersonation: whoever used the account
was able to fool a number of her friends. Because of this, TV.com has to take stringent measures to make sure the impostor doesn't gain access to TV.com again and trick more users.
* The
Avatar forum is for discussing...
Avatar. There is a designated off-topic thread. There are personal blogs. Anything not having to do with the
Avatar program can go there. If you're not sure, use the off-topic thread or your personal blogs.
* Any image that causes a scroll bar is a Disruptive Posting. This can mess up certain browsers on certain settings.
* Posts that contribute nothing to the discussion are considered Disruptive and off-topic. This includes "bump" posts.
* Quoting a post that is a TOS violation is a TOS violations.
* Bumping an invalid or improper thread by adding a new post to somehow "deal" with it is unnecessary and self-defeating.
Report it and ignore it.
* Noob- and troll-fighters are not necessary. If a post or thread is in violation,
report it and ignore it.
* There is a limit of four games per show forum. Moderators will be moving excess games to the TV Show Fun & Games forum, going by popularity.
* Getting away with something in the past does not mean it is acceptable now or in the future.
* The fact that moderators do not notice a TOS violation immediately does not mean that it should not be moderated at all. The fact that a post is a few weeks old is not a valid defense
* The posting in this forum about "In before the lock" messages was not a new rule, it was a clarification. These posts fit the description of both off-topic and disruptive posts, both of which have always been disallowed by the TOS. Therefore all "in before the lock" moderations were legitimate.
* For forums with a large # of problems, TV.com moderators have and will continue to use "speeding ticket" moderations as necessary. What does this mean? We will issue shorter-term suspensions but after only a single violation. We use this when it appears that a poster is deliberately and blatantly violating the TOS.
* All ideas and suggestions are welcome and everything posted here will be kept in mind. However, as with anything in life, how courteous and clearly stated the proposal is, and the behavior of the person making the suggestion, will have some effect. Ideas that could let a user bypass the Terms of Services do not have much chance of being considered.
* For more information on the Terms of Service (TOS) and what the various violation types are
, see here. The Terms of Service that everyone agreed to when they signed up
can be found here.
* Abusively reporting posts is a TOS violation. If you're not familiar enough with the TOS to avoid violations, you are probably not familiar enough with it to determine when someone else is committing a violation.
* If you want to keep a thread near the top of the forum, contact the editor to pin it. Note that normally there is a limit of approximately 10 pinned threads in a forum. if the editor doesn't believe it necessary or the forum is at the limit,
"bumping" your thread to keep it at the top is a Disruptive Posting. It's also self-defeating: if everyone did it, it would ultimately do nothing.
