Mai is a cool character! Azula, I HATE that **** But Mai and Ty Lee are awesome. Mai is funny, and always the dark and gloomy type. It's either she's just smart not to fight, or just like me, it's just not worth fighting enemies you know you will beat.

I really don't like Mai, but you can't just throw out the side-characters! You might as well get rid of juu-dee or one of the othr minor characters...

Mai seems to balance off Ty Lee...they are almost entire opposite ('cept the fact they're both FN)..

okay let's face it, Mai is never going to hit anyone in this
show because of its rating. the writers have a real dilemma on their hands with
    her.

    - she has never EVER hit a single piece of flesh with those kunai

    - she didnt do anything in the drill episode, the writers' excuse was that
    "she hates getting icky"

    - she didnt do anything to stop toph and sokka, she just sat there and said
    take the bear too

get rid of her character already, she's a crutch. mai might as well throw
grapes or something (see, if she threw grapes, she???d be USEFUL becuz she???d
    actually be FEEDING people)!!!!!!

agree/disagree? and I could not make a poll for some reason....(hmm, now i can, the server must have been whacky)

If you put it that way, then Momo should have a horrible death because all he can do is spit out seeds from the many fruits he eats. And they don't even hit anybody.

Mai is good, but the writers refuse to use her. They're having too much fun with Ty Lee and Azula and just put her in the back seat. I hope they don't let her go to waste. She's skillful and could be a better character than she's been used as. Here's hoping S3 gives her some limelight.

???????? I completely agree with masterofaeons. Mai is??very much an underdeveloped character. So is Ty Lee but, at least they are giving her some better action sequences and more inner play with other characters. While I am not a shipper, maybe the writers while develop??Mai more through her girlhood crush on Zuko, now that he is currently on Azula's side.

The parrots are currently writing the fanfic, "Avatar: The Musical, Parrot Style".??

well either way we are gonna see a whole lot of her in season 3, because according to Mike and Bryan, zuko and mai are gonna have A LOT of *ahem*discussions with each other (if you get my drift).if you cant well you lucked out, ill tell you anyway.

    ZUKO + MAI=MAJOR BONDING IN SEASON 3

Did you mean bonding or bondage??? ROFL!!!!!!!!!
Sorry.?? I just had to ask.

Anyways, Mai's character is the love interest for Zuko.?? That is another reason why the Zutara fans are going to be disappointed.?? In fact I am willing to even bet that Mai will turn agains Azula for Zuko.

Ooooo.?? I just opened up an interesting topic of discussion.?? Does anyone else think she might betray Azula?

Mai does what SHE wants, when she wants, how she wants, for stupid reasons. In The Drill, she didn't pursue Sokka and Katara because she didn't want to get dirty. In Crossroads, she didn't bother fighting Toph because she knew she'd lose, and she just didn't care enough about Azula's orders. In Return to Omashu, the only reason she went with Azula is because she was bored. Azula had to threaten Ty Lee, but Mai? Mai wanted to have some fun, like a Goth girl who's stuck at home with her parents. Don't badmouth her, if Avatar was unrated, she'd be far more dangerous. (Nickelodeon; what're ya gonna do?)

Goths are very into bondageAHEM. . . But, I don't think she'd have a problem betraying her nation for Zuko, assuming they have all that time with personal bonding and she still has a big'ol crush on Zuzu (sorry, couldn't resist). She seems the type not to hold loyalties to anyone but herself, and she never swore loyalty to Azula. (for that matter, neither did Ty Lee. Anyone think Ty Lee would go with her for Sokka, or something?)

    no! Mai is very necessary.

so far she's proven she can pin down people with her weapons, and she poses as a menacing figure. Plus she provides a balance between herself and Ty Lee. If it was just Azula and Ty Lee, Azula would look ditzy as well.

Anyways, I think she'll prove to be more interesting in the next season. This has been the best finale I've ever seen to ANYTHING.

Mai is an interesting character and underdeveloped like has been said. I think we will see more involvement from her in season 3. She may turn against Azula but I don't think that will happen openly. She will just lose interest and move on to Zuko. I hope they do a lot more with some of the FN characters and so far each season has brought new characters or more development on the related season (ie Water, Earth). With season 3 being fire (just a guess there), I think the FN characters will see a lot of story or even some backstory.

Let me see if I interpreted what you guys are saying right: Mai is many things...
    1. Mai is a ally cat
    2. Mai is the straight man to Ty lee the stooge
    3. Mai is a under-appreciated/developed Daria

You've got a point. In each season, Water had a lot of exposure towards Water tribe characters, Earth season had a lot of Earth Kingdom characters, mainly Toph, but more as well. That's a good point, we may see more and more FN people developed, maybe some more deserters from FN? Good call.

For example, I'm looking forward to seeing Jeong Jeong again (and his airhead stooge...)

I like Mai's character. It provides us with some comic relief from the show. When Sokka isn't there to say something stupid we have Mai and her "I don't feel like it" attitude. So no, I don't think shes useless.

    1) She helped take down the Koushi warriors even though it didn't show any of them getting hit.

2)In "The Drill" Ty-Lee didn't do anything either, she just got stuck in the slurry when Katara was bending it. It was just a way to show off her bad attitude while nothing important would have happened.

3)Why should she have fought? It was two against one over a bear. There was no point in possibly getting injured for nothing. Again shows that she is smart, even if it some times comes across as being lazy.

that is true..... so true. she just seems useless, but actually, she's very important. I agree that it is kinda stupid to give her weapons she will never be able to really use, but fire-benders will never be able to horribly burn some one and Sokka will never get to kill any one with his sharp boomerang. This is just the downside of a PG-7 rated show.
