I'm not exactly sure, but didn't ozai or sozin say they wiped out the air temples... I don't think there's any reason to believe that 100% of the airbenders were living in the temples... if america was wiped out there would still be americans in the world over seas. I'm under the impression there are air benders out there,
but either
A. They are planning on hiding forever or
B. They don't know they can airbend
And for all of you who think aang is going to give people bending abilities, we don't know if he can give bending abilities... all we know is he can take it away because firebending was in ozai, so where would aang get the energy to give him another bending ability unless he sacrificed his own bending ability... not to mention it seems kind of dangerous because if he slips up he could kill himself
one more thing I think people are overlooking... age in avatar is more like age in Lord of the Rings... Avatar kyoshi must have been over 150 when she died, the lion turtle lives forever, dragons probably live for hundreds of years, bumi himself is 112 or so, and he's jacked and agile (impossible in the real world) Aang will most likely be around for another 150 years or so, and in that amount of time (assuming he and katara have kids) there will be plenty of airbenders who learned from aang

Aang won't be alive - the next Avatar is his reincarnation. If he's alive, there won't BE another Avatar until he dies! Also, although I'm not 100% sure, I think that Appa is the last bison - bisons lived in the temples. But, then again, Momo survived, so, who knows?

3. He's only been taught to redirect lightning, and Azula only shot it at Katara (cheater!).
4. Yes, he is, for now.... His kids may be airbenders (gene dominance was never discussed for internation breeding - are kids airbenders or waterbenders? They can't be earthbenders or firebenders, though, because that's only due to Aang's spiritual-ness, ese Zuko would also be able to do everything as great-grandson of Avatar Roku.)

I would think this would be the most logical assumption. They probably realize something is different about themselves, but with nobody to help them tap into their powers better, they simply have a basic understanding and knowledge. Now, I know the title is the last airbender, but logically speaking, it is just as likely to think there are benders who just don't know their abilities yet as opposed to being none at all.
