Obviously, you didn't read the warning at the begining
The fact that Kataang is not the ideal romance as far as looks and age go is one of the things I love best about it. As fars as I'm concerned, discounting a ship because of those is just plain shallow, pure and simple. So discount all your arguments involving age or looks.
The whole "fall in love with former worst enemy as part of redemption" has been over-used just as much as "fall in love with the hero". They're both complete and utter cliches. And guess what? We don't care. We like cliches - it's why they keep popping up everywhere. As long as they maintain the original epic touch that has been keeping them going ever since Homer. Scratch another argument.
Katara's personality is so suited to Aang that the corny old phrase "soul-mates" seems appropriate here. And then we can get into the argument of how Katara is unsuited for Zuko, and how Mai is perfectly suited for Zuko.
So, you prefer Zuko to Aang. Well, that's just you. A lot of us think of Aang as the true hero of the story, and personally I always enjoyed his tale far more than Zuko's. Zuko takes a close second (he may actually have edged ahead during the middle of season 3), but Aang's moral crisis in the finale (his session with the Guru drew me as well) was the true clincher for me. I'm one of those strange people who digs moral crisises and always showing mercy to your enemies no matter how stupid it is to do so. So Aang is my favorite (second favorite really - but this will be one thread where I don't turn everything into Azula glorification).
And your last point, Fire and Water. I have to say, of all Zutarian arguments, this is the one that well and truly gets under my skin. I have never run into a Zutarian who can provde me with a real explanation of how the whole "fire/water thing" translates into romantic. Mabye it's just me, but am I the only who notices that this would curtail Taang? And am I also the only one who notices that the Air/Water Kataang can be seen as keeping with the themes of Water/Earth Sukka, Fire/Fire Maiko, and Water/Water Yuokka, to run through all the main canon ships in the show? If you can explain this one to me, I'd be really grateful.
So I think that pretty much covers everything you brought up.
And may I say again, next time, you really should read the warning signs
Ah, Romeo and Juliet - a classic example of your Zutaresque cliche.
I'm not trying to argue you out of your ship. I'm just picking apart your reasonings for liking one over the other and denouncing some of them as shallow.
Saying one ship is better than another is like saying one flavor of ice-cream is better than another. It is purely a matter of preference.
And you should have read the part of the warning specifying that these vids are directed only at the crazy canon!zutarians who were insistent that Zutara was going to happen. We could argue about which ship is better until the cows come home, but what cannot be denied is that while Zutara might have been an interesting ship, it had absolutley zero chance of ever becoming canon.

that was retarded... the whole thing assumes zutara fans are actually trying to justify the ship... that's wrong here's why we, I'm sorry, just me I guess, are zutara fans A) Because ever since zuko cut his hair... it's not gross anymore B) Because Aang is kinda young... like 12, and Katara is at least 15 probably older. And zutara fans are typically older, so we're more drawn to older relationships C) Because it would be way more romantic if Katara and Zuko were together as opposed to Aang... due to the fire/water thing C sub a) Honestly, the girl falling in love with "the hero" is overused and over-rated... I've seen it a billion times... this wouldn't be annoying but this brings up B) again D) Because relationships with older people can go a whole lot further E) Because Katara's "motherly" personality is a perfect match for Zuko's redemption story F) This is more from a personal perspective: I don't really like Aang's character as much as Zuko's... it's very simplistic... but Zuko's whole betrayal and redemption story, along with man vs. self and society and others theme, is an amazing character development G) Another personal and really strictly preferential... Aang is bald, young, and has arrow tatoos... he's really got a monk look to him, and it makes the romance kind of strange |
