I'm not sure I'd call Jet a sociopath, but I can see where you're going with that idea. And I wouldn't say that he was confused either. Even though we may call his values into question (drowning the villagers to damage the fire nation), Jet was a very sure person. Sure, we could argue that his values were distorted by a traumatic childhood that involved the death of his parents at an early age, growing up an orphan, and being thrust into a leadership position. But he was a very driven and entirely sane individual. A key theme in this show is kids growing up without strong parental figures, be they deceased (Katara, Sokka, Jet), banished (Zuko, Azula), overbearing (Toph), uninterested (Ty Lee), imprisoned (Haru), or flat out nonexistent (Aang) and how they are shaped instead by their own real world experiences, for better, or often, in Jet's case, for worse.

it could be put pretty simply. Jet was a vigilante. By no means was he a sociopath though because he was able to feel remorse.

He didn't seem very remorseful when he was about to wipe out an entire village just to kill a few dozen Fire nation Soldiers. Quite the opposite really.

after the fact. before he died. not at the time. he didn't realize what he was doing was wrong.

No, he realized, he was just willing to make the sacrifice. We all found this extremely objectionable (and I don't blame us). Waging war requires some tough decisions. Even sacrifice. NOw there's a line, and I think Jet crossed that line. But I can understand, to a certain degree, his viewpoint. Sacrifices must me made. It'd be naive to say Jet didn't know what he was doing.

I'd like to make a statement; sociopaths are more than just people with a lack of remorse.

i know but it really one of the the main thing that seperates them from others. look it up if you don't believe me.

    snippet

A deep seated rage, which is split off and repressed, is at their core.

They do not see others around them as people, but only as targets and opportunities. Instead of friends, they have victims and accomplices who end up as victims.

The end always justifies the means and they let nothing stand in their way.

All I know is Jet doesn't really have a moral compass, and he lies like it's his job. Although, as Axrendale said, he might not be a full on psychopath, he certainly shows some major characteristics of one.

Sounds more like Azula than Jet.

A sociopath's major defining trait is a lack of remorse or conscious.

Considering how he displays both of these, it was more a case of insanity, which can actually be reversed.

Sociopathy is a permanent, longstanding condition. A sociopath is aware of the fact that they are mostly amoral, and will do as they please. They also display general behavior such as repeated rule breaking for nothing other than breaking the rule or personal gain. They are also obsessed generally with power, and also have complete amorality.

Jet shows clear disgust and dislikement for what he was, showing it was more a case of lost but then regained sanity.

Jet and Azula: two different crazies.
Hm, I wonder if the two went camping together... random thoughts...
Camping, or stuck in traffic, or in line at an amusement park. Those would be good times.
