my theory is that Ozai knew that Azulon would get ticked off at his plea for the throne.
He used his "punishment" as an excuse to kill Zuko. Since it's very obviuos hat Azukon was either killed by Azula or Ozai, his plan was to kill Zuko, then Azulon to make himself have the throne, then Azula!

Uh...no. Ozai never wanted to kill Zuko. Even when given the??opportunity he never did. And if he did he wouldn't need any real??opportunity he could just kill him in his sleep anytime he wanted and claim it was an??assassin or something.

Come to think of it, if Ozai wanted Zuko dead, he would have killed him in the Agni Kai or have assassinated him during his two year banishment. Or, he could have ordered Azula to kill Zuko rather than bring him home. So Ozai must care about Zuko in his own crazy way.

Ozai didn't want to kill zuko because he was gonna give him a second chance if he catches the Avatar

Actually, he won't. At least not now, and during "The Storm" before everything went from bad to worse in Zuko's life Iroh said it would never return to normal.

Lol... it's true things'll never be the same, but that doesn't mean his life has to suck. What he can do is assisst Aang by teaching him firebending, have Aang bring down Ozai, then Zuko can take the throne and be a good leader without having to live in the shadow of shame his father created.

But, I'm a strong lover of poetic justice, and I really want Zuko to fight his father head on and beat him, and show him what he's become as a result of his banishment-- a great fighter.

But, of course, Aang will be the one to fight Ozai. Aww man.

    Lol.

Zuko isn't ready to be Fire Lord. He is for lack of a better term a kid. The only one who would have knowledge and experience in being Fire Lord would be Iroh.

But here's a thought...What if at the end of the fight Ozai is still Fire Lord? I'm not saying Aang fails but wouldn't it be a nice twist if Ozai realises that he's on the wrong side and stops the war? Just throwing out an idea that really hasn't been thought of.

What if Ozai does the right?

Maybe Aang and Zuko will tag team Ozai. That way Aang and Zuko both get to kill him.

Once again if Aang, Zuko, Katara, or any of the core gang kills Ozai or Azula or anyone else??then that doesn't make them any better than the ones they are trying to defeat.

It would be a happier ending, but if Ozai dose stop the war it would mean that everything that happened in the show like, fighting the fire army didn't matter b/c Ozai just stops the war. + it would be a??boring ending too. Still, a good theory, ISpeakTheTruth, keep 'em coming

Well obviously he's not just going to wake up and say 'hey I'm going to stop the war.' I'm saying after the big fight out when he's beaten by Aang and the gang something happens that makes him see that he was wrong.

The creators could have made Ozai evil like Azula but he's not. He has never killed any one (Since we don't know about Azulon) and even after he became Fire Lord he still wanted Iroh to be part of the FN since he still allowed him to fully participate in war room tactics and decisions. If anything Ozai has tried to keep the family together as much as he could. During the Agni Kai with Zuko he did everything but beg Zuko to get up and fight him. Even when he banished Zuko he gave him??opportunities to earn the right to??come back and he even gave him a crew a ship and from the looks of it from episodes like "The Waterbending Scroll" he was given a lot of money because Iroh was buying things left and right and Zuko didn't even flinch about it.

And even when his son fails to bring in the Avatar and his brother betrays their nation (Since he did attack Zhao and that does count as tretury) instead of sending someone to kill them he sent Azula to bring them back to the FN.

There is a reason why Ozai wasn't made evil like Azula and I have to believe that it has a larger meaning then just him being defeated and then replaced.

Ozai isn't that evil but not all of his decisions were justify I know Zuko was being disrespectful but in real life you need every man you got in war you don't go sacrificing them.

I assume you're talking about the plan that general suggested in the war room? We don't know what Ozai's opinion was on that plan. Zuko??interrupted before Ozai could talk about the general's plan.

Errr...On the original topic of the thread, I personally suspect that it was Zuko's mother who killed Azulon.

Well you're right but it was probably rejected considering that they have that drill.

The drill had NOTHING to do with that episode.
